hemm,
retainers are given to pt who had braces because the bone structure (alveolar bone) that holds the teeth is not well organized yet..
(moving the teeth during orthodontic treatment=braces will cause bone resorption on the side of movement and bone apposition on the contra lateral side..meaning on the area where the teeth move..the bone there is losing its structure(resorption) and the other side the bone is putting back its structure(apposition)
the purpose of giving retainers is.. when the movement stop,(completed treatment) both sides, can regain back the bone structure that was lost during wearing braces

so..........
that's maybe why ur teeth is a little bit loose... (since u r not having any gum problems)

anyhow... seek ur dentist opinion

ps:one of complication after wearing braces that may arise is ur teeth will have shorter roots...

You may want to check with your dentist to make sure your bite is correct. If your lower teeth is constantly hitting the top teeth when you bite down ( aka traumatic occlusion) it may cause the top front teeth to loosen over time. Another possiblity could be that if you haven't worn your retainer for a while your teeth might have shifted so, wearing your retainer now may be causing the teeth to move. One easy way to know whether this is taking place is feeling pressure against those teeth.

I don't know If I can answer your question easily... The best source on all things to do with oral and maxillofacial surgery, as well as specialist dentistry, is to go to http://dentalimplantsaustralia.com . This site has all the best information on wisdom teeth, orthodontics, implant dentistry, as well as things to do with oral medicine, oral pathology, jaw correction surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, mucosal diseases, tumours, cysts, and reconstruction surgery. There are also other parts on post-operative care, medications, material types, as well as explanations on Medicare. It is an Australian site, but I highly recommend it for everyone.
Good luck with finding out what you are looking for!
