The Boss 302 and Boss 429 were built in 69 and 70 for racing, Trans-Am and Nascar, when Nascar banned the 429 it was used in drag racing. There was a 69 Shelby GT 500 with a 428 CJ and it had a different frontend and rear treatment, although they were all fastbacks

A 67 gt 500 is a big block Shelby mustang. There is no 67 boss.

the GT500 is one of the most sought after cars of all time.
However in '67 I believe you are referring to a KR500.
Gt500s are distinguishable by their multiple air scoops around the vehicle, along with the extra set of forward lights in the grill.
Also I do not believe that you will see the FE style of engine in a GT.
In 1968 ford began the thin wall casting process, which led to the 289, and more importantly the 289 HI-PO.
That engine embarrassed Chevrolet so bad, that the inside story is that General Motors would never use " less cubic inches again ".
Why not?
At that time Ford was always winning the factory horsepower wars.
As some of you remember in '66 Ford was the only American company to have an engine taken off the street due to excessive output.
Wow talk about annal government people.
Maybe you have an opportunity at a rare pre production car.
The only way that I know is to un-bolt the top of the front fender at the apron, and slide it back slightly, to expose the factory serial number that is stamped on to an extra tab that, is built into the non removable engine compartment apron, on these type of Mustangs.

Are you sure there was a 67 Boss?

They are based on the fastback Mustang body. I don't believe the Boss was available until 1969.
