Whilst the Pagan cross ( Egyptian Ankh ) and the Jewish fish symbol have been hijacked by Christianity, it appears the IPU , ( Invisible Pink Unicorn ), the Flying Spaghetti Monster and Bertram Russell’s celestial Tea-Pot have become identified with Atheism.
I am looking for an Icon , a symbol , that represents Atheism , not a negation of other belief systems – although other atheist icons will be of interest .
What I am getting at is ... should all atheists carry a Green balloon ? or make their Females only wear only Green Jewellery or always arrive for work 10 minutes late ?
I don’t mind buying a bagel from a Jewish Bakery or buying Fruit from a Muslim at midday. I don’t even mind marrying a Christian.
However , what symbol can I Put in my shop window / Wear on my Lapel ... Put on my pre-printed stationary ... that all Theistic believers will Understand and Know.
I hate to offend or upset anyone. If someone is going to buy a Battery for their watch from me .. I do not want them to offend their God ... they just need to be a hypocrite or an Atheist .

Stephen --- The Fish symbol with Darwin inside it is Good ( I like it ) , but is a Negation .
Namrettik --- The Atom symbol might work with more publicity A= atom , A = Atheism.
Movie --- I am not after a Gimmick , I just want just to Raise the Awareness of Atheism and not allow others to offend their God(s) / Goddess(es) / Juju / Yahweh / Allah / Jah / 真主 / 基督教 etc etc , there appear to be over 300 or 3000 of these peculiar ( peculiar to me ) Beliefs and I offend them all !
Demitri – I accept Visa , I accept Mastercard , I accept Christians and Muslims , However the latter 2 should be aware they do not accept me and my Goods for sale.
Pull My finger is my best answer so far ! Luckily there are still 3 days left to find a better answer !

Well, I don't think a fish with legs and "Darwin" inside is appropriate for atheism. Evolution and atheism are certainly not synonymous.
Perhaps a Sun, Earth, and Moon -- illustrating a Copernican solar system and commemorating Galileo's persecution by the Catholic Church. ...too obscure and ambiguous, but I can't think of anything better.
EDIT: After sleeping on it, I realized that a person being burned at the stake is the perhaps the best icon of atheism. It will require a skilled artist to render the exact image, perhaps a silhouette. Nevertheless, nothing examplifies the ecclesiastical tyranny atheists oppose like burning someone alive for daring to express their own thoughts.

Personally I think the notion is ridiculous and I hope you're joking. As an atheist (by the definition of the word and not whatever it is you seem to think it is) if I saw something in a shop window pretending to represent atheists I would never shop there.
I would pass by and go to that Jewish bakery or Muslim grocer or Christian store because I suspect they would at least have some idea of what it is they are claiming to be. And if you were the only place to buy a watch battery I guess I would have to stop wearing a watch.
And if it happened to be that moronic atom with the 'A' in the middle symbol I might just snap and set it on fire.
----
Then you likely have to be prepared for a lot of atheists not accepting your arrogant and misguided notion of speaking for all of them.

Possibly a 'black hole'???
Because if you truly believe that there is nothing beyond the life you have now, then the future must look black indeed! Certainly for a lot of people (myself included!) I would hate to think that there was no hope of an after life! Life for so many people is one of pain, suffering and distress on a daily basis in this world we live in!
If this is truly your belief then that is your choice - at least most of those answering this question have not been busy vilifying those who have got any belief in God!
I would say God Bless you, but I think you would rather that I said "Have a nice day!"

Atheism is not a movement. Atheism is not looking for adherents. It is a viewpoint from which there is no need to see a creator or other supernatural being. No god. Simple as that. I certainly don't want to sport a symbol of my atheism - that wuld indicate that I need support and vindication of my "beliefs" whereas actually, I simply live without religious belief.

Lol, the whole point of atheism is that it rejects such symbolism. It isn't a group or a club or a movement, just people that agree on an individual basis that they don't believe in any religious system.
Once you get yourself a symbol, you form an exclusionist group, then you become an 'anti' movement, and again, that's not what atheism is about. "A-theism", "without theology".

is this just for you? Or is it for all of the atheists...or whoever wants to adopt the icon?? Hmmmm........it would have to be something new, something fresh...not a symbol that people are already familiar with......it would require much more time and thought to get it just right. What do you think??
