(Whew! Answers went south while I was trying to answer before...now here it is...I hope!)

One way would be, copy and paste: open both images. Pick one, either one. Under Image (on the menu bar) click Canvas Size. Make the "Canvas" (which is the space on which the image is located) big enough to hold both images) - add to the height or width or both..., and diddle the X and Y offset to place the original image within the new enlarged canvas. You may have to Edit==> Undo and play with this several times until you get just what you want!

Now, wander your cursor over to the other image. Click Select and under that, All. Then click Edit and click Copy.

Click back to the image whose Canvas you enlarged. Click Edit and click Paste. Now you have a copy of the second image lying around on the first.

Use the crossed arrow (pointing NorthSouthEastWest) tool to move the copied image to the desired position.

Then Layer--> Anchor Layer

You may want to, before all this, use Image Resize to get both images to scale, so that what you copy will be in sync with what you'll paste it onto. You may also want to use cropping here and there so's you won't get extra stuff laying around and you'll get a good merged set. All that cropping (beyond just chopping off rectangles) could involve tricks beyond a simple answer...

Oh and P.S. all that business about enlarging the canvas may not have been necessary if you were just placing the second photo WITHIN the first photo!

if you mean like putting mewtwo and lucario together (or something else) then what you're going to need is 2+ sprites (go to http://spriters-resource.com/ to get sprites). open up gimp/paint.Take off the pieces of the sprite that you want on the other one. add it on (I use paint so this is a tutorial for paint) but you may need to have Draw Opaque not checked. add it on. continue until you have what you want. If this is not helpful, then just google sprite tutorials. I'm not good at explaining things so first try my tutorial then google sprite tutorials. Also a sprite is used in all games. some people even rip them or rip them then customize it. They even make their own.
