He's not! I think his methods are fear-based, antiquated and appropriate only for dogs who need to be behaviorally rehabilitated.

Most dogs, normal dogs, my dogs want to please their human companions and respond much better to positive reinforcement. I would suggest Tamar Geller's methods.

Aggressive dogs have 2 choices death or being trained. some can be fixed some can't.
Having worked with a few aggressive dogs well before Cesar was on t.v. i have used some of what he does.
Also working from pup-hood and fixing an adult dog is 2 totally differ things, when it comes to even slight aggression.

telling people to watch might help them see what they are doing wrong....like dogs becoming 'fur-babies' that a dog needs rules. other then that its a pointless answer that gets them 2 points. doing what he does if you have an aggressive dog and not knowing body language...could be harmful..just like any other training tool.

Amazingly people seem to think dogs come knowing everything.

sure he's a good sales man. and of course he's being sued...we Americans LOVE to sue and if you have money all the more reason.

So yes i like Cesar but seeking a trainer that can work with YOU and your dog is a better way to go about it.

Probably not what you want to hear. But some things he does do work. I think we have only had the show on once. I was on the computer doing email and such so I did not really watch it. My grandson watched it. He was training a dog to not want to eat a pet rabbit. My grandson had brought home a Pit Bull puppy and our older Pit would growl and snap at the puppy like she wanted to kill it. After the program was over my grandson took the older Pit and the puppy and did what Cesar did on the program and within an hour he had the two Pits the best of buddies. They play together all the time now, a 55 lb and a 25 lb. Pretty funny.

I don't know, because Cesar is good at what he does. But just by watching the show you are not going to become a behavior expert. An average person would never be able to communicate with their dog as Cesar does, Even IF they do watch his show. And it is almost impossible to get Cesar to come out and work with your dog. So I feel that recommending Cesar is pretty much a pointless answer.

**I think Cesar is good at what he does, but most people aren't going to do the techniques the same as he does, so they won't get the same results. I like Cesar, but I don't use his techniques on my dog, because I have no idea what I'm doing. But he works with The Most difficult dogs, and he gives them a second chance at life. He works with dogs who are on death row in the pound, who would have been euthanized if he didn't step in and help. So I do admire Cesar.

get me wrong but a lot of the dogs that I have Cesar work with on his shows, he gets results. But...
Look at the dogs he is working with.. They a ruined by their owners, spoilt rotten and think they rule the roost, basically what Cesar does is gets the dog to point of exhaustion so they are not so energetic, then he retrains the owners, at this time the dog has little resistance cause they are so dang tired from being on that treadmill!
I think if more people realised dogs are dogs not people ( don't get me wrong I love my dogs with all my heart) then a lot of them wouldn't get half of the troubles that they have.
I agree with Cesar in the fact that people have to be dominant however this needs to be taught from the start, not just when we have had enough of the monsters that we have created.
I train my own dogs and have never had any trouble these are my rules for them.
1.I'm the boss, what I say goes...1st time
2.They do not eat until after i have.
3. On the rare occasions they are allowed inside, they stay on their blanket, under NO circumstances do they get on the furniture.
4.In the car, they sit or lay down...and don't move.
A lot of my friends with dog cant believe that when I tell my dogs to do something they do it 1st time, while their dogs are running a muck.

Well for one thing his methods do work if done correctly. Its not so much that the pets need to be trained it that the owners need to know how to handle there pets and most owners don't. He teaches about dogs as they are instinctivly and naturely and how certains actions they will respond to. He is very smart, and while may not be the answer to most pet problems, he is the answer to most pet owners.

I was at a loss as to what to do with my two huge stubborn Akitas. I paid $100 to see CM live in Honolulu last year. Bought the CM book and the CM harness. He is very much the showman and I believe that convinces viewers/readers that he is always correct. He tries to find a common ground, so that you feel that he 'knows' you and your dog. Very good salesmanship. Oh, did I mention that I also bought the CM hat, that says 'pack leader' on it? Yeah, well, neither of my dogs can READ!!!
Anyhow, I began working with a lady locally (in Hawaii) who came to my house, interviewed our family and worked with my dog. She then had me work with him. Gave me homework and suggestions and encouragement. She comes from a place of LOVE and consistency. Like tough love we used to use on our teenagers. I had results the very next day. So there is more than one way to skin a cat (or teach an Akita)...
My suggestion: Look for someone who fits you and your dog. Not the next Hollywood trend.

Good luck!

I would NEVER try any of his methods look at this copy and paste from another sight

The San Jose Mercury News reported today that television producer Flody Suarez is suing Cesar Millan, of National Geographic channel's "The Dog Whisperer," for injuries that his dog allegedly sustained while having some behavioral problems "dealt with" at Millan's training facility. The workers in the suit are accused of placing a choke collar on the dog and overworking him on a treadmill. According to Suarez, he later found his dog, Gator, "bleeding from his mouth and nose, in an oxygen tent gasping for breath and with severe bruising to his back inner thighs."

And if you still think Cesar Millan is a good trainer, be sure to check out Pat Miller's review of his new book in the current issue of Bark magazine. If injuries and lawsuits aren't enough to convince anyone, Miller provides a clear-eyed critique of Millan's technique that dispels the myth that Millan's training techniques are safe or effective. and just to add something else to the article who forces their dog to the ground when they do something wrong

Cesar Millan is a wonderful dog trainer. He knows the psychology of dogs and their behavior patterns.
