First off the British Army had the support of the Royal Navy. They also had the manpower edge, and more money to wage the war. Also they had a proffesional military which was one of the finest in the world.
The Continentals were fighting on their home field. That made logistics way easier. They also knew for a fact they could not give up, as there actions were treason against the crown. As such they had more desire to win. Finally England had several enemies who came to the Colonial's aid, namely France.

The British had a well trained army and a Navy the Continentals did not have. Seasoned officers and nearly limitless resources. The Continental army knew the lay of the land and were fighting for something worth dieing for. The British completely underestimated the resolve of the Continentals. A great example of that was the battle of Bunker Hill were the American side repelled three British charges, with the British taking horrendous casualties before the American side ran out of ammunition and had to retreat. This SHOULD have made the British realize early on they would eventually have to leave. It did not and the war went with the British changing leaders several times.

The Continental Army waged a defensive war. It's much easier to play defense during war time. You get to pick the location of battles.

British got to wear those spiffy red uniforms (1) and fight in formation(2).
Continentals learned that red shows up real well when you're aiming from far off(1). They got to commune with nature while hiding in the trees to shoot at those fancy red uniforms.
I know, totally no help, but it's Monday.
