opening windows always come up small, now?

I just had my pc wiped out and reinstalled with xp. The guy used his disk because mine wouldn't work. Well now the new windows come up about the size of a 3x5 card. I have to maximize all of them every single time. He had me clicking on the blank part of the tool bar and I think they might be in cascade size. there is no undo there for this. I can't find anything else to fix this. PLEASE HELP

Drag the edges (do not use the maximize tab) to your desired size, then use the X to close them.

Reopen.
