You can find that kind of stuff here.... it is updated every day. I saw it on a tv show and the guy from the New York Times said it was rated the best free software blog of 2007......

A really neat and easy and often-overlooked way to type documents is Wordpad.
It creates files in the format .rtf (Rich Text Format) which is fairly universal (Macs and PCs can use it). It can be opened by Word and by OpenOffice.
It's easy to use.
It's possible, that it might not be as powerful and have as many features as you want, but IMHO it's definitely worth taking a glance! Or take a second glance if you looked once and poopooed it!
