well i started as a devoted christian, loving to sing on the choir and on the pep squad at my church. i loved to dance with the beat and listen to the preecher talk. but now, im getting older and beginning to think of whats behind the reasoning of the world, how can we all exist outta two people adam and eve, who were created from dirt? and how do we know all this, who has REALLY heard the word of god. the bible was made by man, who is imperfect in many ways. maybe he is wrong? i dont know really. its just difficult to believe that a superior being created us and is watching us all the time. i do believe there is evolution in us in some circumstances, how our basic knowledge and expanded to make an artificial world in some sort. this land, full of hatred and death, full of struggle and tears. is this what god wanted? is this what god MADE? y put us through this where the devil if he even existed, could tamper with us at will? where is the meaning of life? please tell me anyone?

Adam and Eve and evolution -
Don't let this be the crux of your faith... whether you believe in a 7 day creation or otherwise. I personally believe that the story of creation was a way to metaphorically describe God's providence in the creation of the universe, formation of Earth, and evolution of man to a group of early desert nomads (the Jews) in the best way to optimize the understanding of their purpose among men as a priesthood of God through which all men would one day be saved.

How do we know? -
We have to have faith that what the Word has a divine message. It seems to in my understanding, but you'll find lots of Christians who treat the Bible as a code of law just like the Jewish Law was a code. The law is love. Act in a way that exemplifies love, and you've got it!

Why is there suffering? -
God's plan is not for physical comfort, it's for spiritual salvation so that we can one day enjoy everlasting joy. It's not that God is lazy or sadistic. I believe that he wants us to find joy ourselves rather than have it served up on a platter. He's given us his Spirit so that we can endure life here and one day join him.

I'm glad that you're thinking critically and questioning everything. It's the best way to grow. I hope you figure everything out. Whether it be one way or the other, I'll keep a good thought for you. :-)

Maybe your idea of god or Christianity needs some expansion. A lot of Christians I notice tend to take a lot of things very literally. That is one option I guess, but sometimes it creates more problems than it solves. There are other idea of god as well that does not force him/it into the nice little boxes that the human mind concocts . . . its funny sometimes, people make up so many rules about who and what god is and how it has to behave or whether or not it exists while at the same time they can't even cure cancer. Look into mysticism some . . . direct experience as a means of knowledge rather than having to use holy books . . . which are, after all, just the ideas of other people, and a poor substitute for direct knowledge.

God, the devil, Eden, Adam and Eve . . . those are myths . . . not myths in the sense of useless, childish stories, but myths in the sense that they are trying to convey a message (much like a fairy tale) that is more effectively conveyed in symbols and poetic form than in literal facts. Taking them literally is like taking an analogy for the real thing.

I have come to the conclusion that god is so far above us at the moment that no one can claim to know much about it, but that it does exist. The reason for the grief that is occurring on the planet now is not god's fault but our own. We chose this life for the lessons that we could learn from it, although the memory of your past lives and bardo existence does not remain with most. Through the struggles of our lives, we learn lessons as little children and we grow. That's just me though. You may reach a different conclusion, and if you do you should stick to it. The conclusion may be atheism, an expanded view of god or existence, but whatever you do, keep searching for the answer and don't let anyone else decide this for you.

And I am sorry, I cannot really give you the answer . . . you can never do this for anyone else. It's kind of like learning Calculus . . . if someone else does it for you, then you haven't gained anything.

Good luck.

Keep asking questions. Doubts and faith go hand in hand. What happens to all the questions if you stop believing in God. You still have all the crime and disloyalty. What is the meaning of life without God? Can you find peace with the thought that the universe is an accident of physical forces. Pure science with its empirical knowledge and deductive reasoning is no easier than religion with its faith, inspired wisdom and inductive reasoning.
You are always left with a choice: body or spirit. This life or eternal life. Myself or others. Where do I centre, where do I feel most at home?

I believe the bible was written in a form that would be acessable to all people, young and old. Now that you have grown, you have to look behind the words to the intention of the writer. If I said God made man and woman instead of Adam and Eve, am I really saying anything new? Not really but it eliminates your issue of all of us from just two people. We are all made of created matter, salts, acids protien, is that so different to dirt? We do not know it in an empirical way, we believe it in an accepting way, like so many other things we do not need to prove before we act on them.
The bible was written by men, men who were wanting to express the presence of God in their lives. It only becomes the living word of God when you and I read it and find God present in our life today. You heard the word of God when you listened to the preachers who roused your faith. Now you struggle with God like Jacob, who wrestled with God all night before establishing the nation of Israel.

God wants us to enjoy life and love each other. It is strange that the ten commandment can be so simply and yet we fail to live by them. What God wants is largely ignored by man, no wonder there is such pain in the world but would you give up your freedon to have a well behaved society? God wants it but he does not enforce it.

Life is opportunity, life is choice. Try to do the best you can, show good example but be ready to forgive. Accept your sufferings as a connection to Christ on the Cross which saves us all. We still have a long way to go to the kingdom but I belive there is no better distination. Peace.

you are looking at religion through a filter

This filter is science

the older youve gotten the more intelligent you are and the more you question your believes

Do not worry everthing can and will be solved.

People like Copernicus and Galileo thought the earth was not at the center of the earth.

Even though the church though this because they were looking through the bible and not logical reasoning.

You are looking through logical reason and I am not say that is bad it will just bring you different answers like C. and G. got even though they were correct.

As life goes on you will grow up and when the time is right you will believe or not
the choice will always be your

and about the bible question how it was made by man but man is imperfect the spirit of God was in them therefere since God was perfect the man is perfect in writing the Bible becuase even tho men wrote it it is the exact words of God

If you accepted Jesus into your heart and beleived he died for you and rose on the third day then you are still a child of the King and the Lord will bring his sheep back to the fold. Sin enter into this world and that is why there is so much hatred and death, we are all born with sin. This is why Jesus died on the Cross for us. He shed his blood for us that we might have eternal life. The Bible Is Gods Word, inspired by
God. God give us a choice. God did not make sin.. man did God gave us the way out. As for the devil he's got you pretty
confused. Don't give in to Satan. Pick up Gods word Study, write the Words upon you heart. Repent to God. Go get consel from your pastor. This world is only a temporary living quarters. Our home is in heaven. God is Love.. He loves you so much that He sent his son..that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have every lasting life. The way i see things the World has nothing to offer except pain, and suffering. With God you have eternal life without the pain and suffering.

Read "lady phc"'s answer carefully. Loving to sing and dance does not make a person a devoted Christian. These "party churches" are bad news. You need to find a church that teaches right doctrine. You probably have never really heard the true gospel of Christ's death, burial and resurrection preached correctly. You need to start reading the New Testament yourself and pray that God will teach you what you need to believe. God's ways are not our ways. This is why the Bible is an offense to many people. They want a God who thinks like they do. The purpose of life is to get to know your Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ. I'll pray for you.

If you're doubting the veracity of the Bible, you need to do some heavy duty Bible study. Adam and Eve are symbolic. "Adam' means 'a man', and Eve is a play on words. What does that say about the Garden? But Evolution also states that we came from dirt. It's just a more specific route. The Bible agrees with history and archaeology. Don't believe the crap you hear on this site, look it up for yourself.

We are not here to be on earth. We are 'tuning up' for eternity. What's coming is far greater than what we see now.

Is the bible the word? No, I don't believe so. It was written by men. Men with their own ideas, beliefs, political and personal adgendas. I am sure some of it is correct. Like the 10 commandments...they make sense, and if you look at them most of laws that govern the world are based on them. There are other parts of the bible that I beleive as well. But that is my belief. You must find your own path. Sometimes the problem is not in the words, it is in the messenger....

God gave us the ability to choose our own path...free will. As long as people continue to choose the path of hatered, judgement and condemnation there will be wars, pain and death. It is up to each of us to treat each other with compassion, understanding and faith. To look beyond skin color, religious preference, and lifestyle. Once we learn this and teach it to our children the world will change. All you can do is take care of your little corner of the world. And I'll take care of mine, and so on...eventually all the corners and streets will meet....and the world will be better. Do not dwell on things you have no control over or things that have answers too big for us to understand now. Your answers will come when they are ment to. Think about it, if you pray for patience does God give you patience or an opportunity to have patience? If you pray for courage does he give you courage or the opportunity to be couragous? You have to look around...maybe God wants you to question to see what kind of faith you have?

Well slow down. God is the ALpha and Omega. GOd put us on this Earth to live for him and spread the gospel throuout all nations. we go through rough times to toughen us up and see if we are really god chasers. Everyone will not have the perfect life. God never allows anything to come upon you that can't handle. Trust in god it might seem wierd but do see a local pastor that knows what he is talking about. God Bless

I am a singer, so I can really relate to what you say- I loved singing so much in my church choir, that I made that a god instead of God. And when I got older I too started to question, and what I got was not the answers that I was expecting- God allowed me to suffer with a chronic illness that causes me pain every day of my life- and I could have just turned away, and said, "forget you God, why would I want to have a relationship with someone who allows pain?" the answer I received has made me FAITH even stronger- and my friend it is faith- "God may not answer all my questions but He has become enough for me".His grace is sufficient and even though we know dimly today- we will eventually see in full. The meaning of life, is to learn to glorify God in the midst of unanswered questions. I know that may not solve your problems and answer your question like you were hoping , but I can tell you if you put your hope and faith in Christ you will find the most important answer of all - HIM!!!!
And by the way, I still sing in my choir and am on my worship team, and now it is so much more than just loving to sing- it is a way that i can express my praise to the ONE who saved me, and gave me eternal life- and joy unspeakable and full of glory, even in the midst of strife
