I can't believe what people are saying here. For gods sake these are PUPPY'S.

What you need to do is to tell people to ignore the puppy's totally. You have to totally ignore them, don't make eye contact, don't look at them, don't say anything. The puppy's will get bored when they realise there's no reward, nothing in it for them...

Then and only then, when the puppy's have ALL FOUR paws on the ground reward them and let the visitors bend down to their level and make a fuss of them.

If you shout or tell them off for jumping up you are rewarding the undesired behaviour by giving the puppy's attention. You have to totally ignore it.

Please do not follow any of the other advice, its unkind, mean and cruel to be using "punishments" on PUPPY'S. Stones in bottles etc. That sort of thing is only supposed to be used on ADULT DOGS.

You would be surprised, but if you have a bunch of keys (the larger the better) handy, when someone calls at the door, wait until the puppy jumps at the person and immediately they go to jump, slam the keys down on the floor near the puppy and shout no in a stern voice, the noise will shock it and it won't be a nice sensation, it will soon get to realise that it is not pleasant to jump at someone and that it doesn't get it attention. when the puppy is behaving then praise it, go over board.

DO NOT kick, push, spray the puppies or indeed have any contact with them. Puppies and dogs jump up at people for attention and they are trying to force a reaction, plus they are excited. My dog only does it to my dad who reacts in with an excited voice and opens his arms. And yes, I am in the process of retraining my dad, not my dog!

The quickest way to stop a pup or dog jumping up is to turn sharply away from it and completely ignore it. When the dog is calm, then reward it for not jumping up by calmly stroking the dog and saying "good boy/girl".

That way you are rewarding the calm behaviour with positive attention, and not rewarding the jumping up with negative attention. If you are consistent, this will work.

there are two ways that are sure to work either A: put a handful of stones into a plastic bottle and shake it violently close to them just as they are about to jump up or :B use a spray bottle filled with water and squirt them at the time they are about to jump up. Reinforce both of these actions with the No command. He will soon start to obey the No command on its own.

Using your thumb and forefinger, nip the puppies on the back of the neck and hiss at them. This is the type of behavior that senior members of a dog pack exhibit to discipline younger members for inappropriate behavior.

Do this enough times such that the pups exhibit calm, submissive behavior (sitting down, ears down, head drooping). They will then associate the nipping/hissing with improper behavior and you can teach your dogs to stop doing just about anything with that method.

Fill a bean tin with small pebbles/stones and rattle it LOUDLY in front of them saying `NO` when they do it. They will get a fright and after a while will learn that if they don`t jump up at people they will not..........
