He grew up as a prince, his father the king tried to make him the successor. He got married and had a child. When Buddha was a child he always wondered why humans were born to die, by 28 he left his homeland to find the truth about life, his father got angry because as a son, Buddah did not fulfill his father's wish to become the successor.
by the way, buddah was born in india more than 2000 years ago. Buddah really means "the awaken". in terms of spirituality awaken really means to realize that everthing in this world is illusion.

There's a book called Siddhartha. I can't remember the author off the top of my head, but it's all about Buddha's life and is a great read. Also, check out the wiki page on Buddha.
