The one guy hit the nail on the head. He is the last of a dying breed. Now you see an image you dont actually see a driver. They are more like robots who are told where to go and how to act. People hate Gordon because he was able to give SR a run for his money. Gordon was the only one who was able to stand up to the intimidator and race with him. No one else could hold a match to SR until Gordon came along, not rusty, not the labontes, not jarrett. Gordon provided real competition and for the first time ever the intimidator didnt look invincible the man in black looked like he could finally lose a race because another drive had the talent to pass him not because of equipment failure. You all down Gordon, but i think everyone will miss his passion for the sport once he hangs it up.

Remember back when Gordon first came into NASCAR he was almost the only driver to give Dale,Sr a run for his money which Dale Sr fans didn't appreciate. Plus he was very young (Dale Sr referred to him as "the kid"). I believe that was the prime reason that started fans to dislike him. Having said that, he has an equal or greater number of fans that like him and want him to do well.
NASCAR is changing and part of it is the fading of the old school drivers, the ones that made NASCAR what it is today. Jeff Gordon is probably the youngest of the OLD school. When he's gone most won't know who's who anymore. The seats will all be filled with corporate personalities.
When this happens, even those disliking Gordon will wish for the good 'ol days or Gordon and Dale Jr.

We love Jeff Gordon at our house. So much so, we have Jeff Gordon bedroom with all kinds of collectables. Personally, my driver of choice is Jimmy Johnson. Jeff and Jimmy both rock. Hendrick Motor Sports is awesome. The others are just jealous, because their drivers are not as good.

Because Jeff's not a complete fit in the Nascar world. He himself said in an interview that he's not the traditional, confederate flag, cowboy hat wearing Nascar driver. He said he likes wearing suits and listening to other types of music other than country.

Because NASCAR fans from the old school era hate Gordon with a passion. plus when Dale Earnhardt died, Tony Steward won over the Earnhardt fans because Tony drove like Dale.

Because he is better then their favorite driver. Can't argue that because he is statistically the best driver on the track. His stats are better then Dale Sr and Jr combined, so that's why those that like those two dont like him.

I think JohnJohn said it best, he is just different, a city guy imagine, and then theres people who just get sick of him winning all the time, and he is a whiner...I don't hate him, I'm looking forward to Dale Jr being Jeff, Jimmie and Casey's team mate next...
