The ninth commandment, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Exodus 20:16; Deuteronomy 5:20), protects our relationship with God because by seeking and bearing true witness to the truth, we can have a relationship with God. God is truth (John 14:6), and he who speaks truth from the heart abides with God (Psalm 15:1-2). Speaking the truth also shows love toward our fellow man (Ephesians 4:15). Lies of any kind—bald-faced, white or anywhere in between—cause separation and distrust, while truth, though sometimes hard to bear at first, produces unity and trust in the end.

How can you say you love God but make lies about someones faith or beliefs, isn't that bearing false witness?

I agree. But I don't think Christians believe they are lies. They are told something and then they believe it to be true, so they don't think they are lying. And instead of investigating for themselves, they like to avoid those who the lies are about. But one can say that there are many lies against the Christian religion as well.

Many are guilty of breaking this commandment. Whether they know it or not

Solomon wrote a powerful statement in a few words:
Pro 26:28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

The first part of this is what I refer to...you have a person LYING to another person. The one with the lying tongue HATES, and it inflicts a wound to the person being lied to.

Yes it is. Depends on your viewpoint. I consider I'm telling the truth when I criticize another religion - but a believer in that religion can consider I'm telling a pack of lies. Need the wisdom of Solomon to sort that out.

When the midwives of Israel lied to Pharaoh in order to save the male children alive, their lie was not the truth. So I guess they were guilty of bearing false witness.

You just said, "lies of any kind--"

Does lying for the good of others cause you to be separated from God? Seriously, those are my main white lies. And most of the rest are in fun and my friends forgive me.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking....but are you saying for instance that Jesus Himself was bearing false witness to the "faith" of others when He said he was the only way to the Father and to eternal salvation?

Thou shalt not bear false witness. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Thou shalt not bear false witness.

It is. If one does not know the facts about anything, they should keep quiet, because spreading an untruth (even unkowingly) is lying.
