Is Seven Dust dangerous to use on your pets for fleas? I have seen it mentioned a few times in the dog, horse, and cat forum, so I went and bought a bag. But I am a little scared of it.
How would I go about using it and can it harm me or my family?
I have a 9 lb mini schnauzer, and a 120 lb Neopolitan bMastiff that have fleas. Need the fleas gone, cause I am not kickin my babies outside. Its too cold.
Also, can it be used on cats too? I just found a very small kitten, that is infested with fleas. She is too little to keep outside too.
(And no the fleas didnt come with the cat as the dogs already had them, and the kitten was found with em allllllll over the poor baby)

Thanks for the help!

Two the two who said that Sevin Dust was a poison, what about frontline? Isnt it a poison? I mean it kills things and It says "Caution: Do not let kids come in contact., And not to put on puppies younger than 8 weeks, and not on nursing females"? I am not being rude, I am just confused because Frontline is not organic, so therefore it has pestisides in it right? So why would it be any safer for your pets than Sevin Dust? Like I said, I am not being rude, I would just like to know why, thats all.

Thanks for all the answers so far.

OMG! Why on earth would you put a pesticide on your dog?? It is so dangerious not only to their skin but also to be inhaled not only by the dog but by you too. I dont care what others say it is a POISON!

Get some Frontline and put it on you dog and you only need to do this every 30 days.

I'm in total agreement with Animal_artworks. Not even a Million dollars would have me put this stuff on any of my dogs!

Do not put Sevin Dust on animals, this is not its intended use.

Yes it's a pesticide, as is Frontline. There are many different classes of pesticide - some are appropriate for use on animals, some are not. Fipronil (Frontline) is especially intended for use on cats and dogs as an insecticide and repellant - it stays on the skin of the animal and does not affect them internally, so it's probably the safest flea treatment there is. Yes I believe it says to avoid contact with human skin - it's intended for animal use, and animal and human skin is not the same, or even similar actually.

I repeat: do NOT put Sevin Dust directly on an animal. It's efficacy against fleas in the environment is also questionable.

When we lived where there were fleas, I always used Sevin. It is the same as flea powder but much less costly. Don't use it on very young puppies or their mother if she is still nursing them. Otherwise it is pretty safe.

I do think Frontline, Advantage and some of the topical flea deterrents are better and more efficient.

I have never had a issue with it and it is safe. I have used this on severely infested cats and dogs with fleas and ticks. You just put it all over the body but watch put for the eyes. You rub it in like your shampooing your animal. The only issue is that be prepared for white dust in your house if the animal is inside but its not that messy. Just make sure you put it on outside the house or in a garage or basement. I also use it outside around the cats feeders so the ants won't get in there food.

I wouldn't use it on my dogs if you paid me a million dollars.

Dawn dish detergent to wash the pets (3 to 1 water to Dawn diluted applied to DRY animal and sudsed.. allow to sit for 10 minutes and then rinse and wash with pet shampoo).

Three days later (when there is natural oils back on their skin) I'd use Advantage or Frontline.

Vacumn, vacumn, vacumn... throw out the vacumn bag EVERY time you are done. Fleas will continue hatch continously for months.
