I've just reinstalled Window XP on my PC. What I'm noticing is everytime I'm loggin off and shutting down, it goes through a series of updates. Why is it doing it and how can I get it to stop? Thanks for your help!

Don't stop the updates. Your computer is now well out of date and is vulnerable so just accept the updates - yes likely to be hundreds.

Thinking about how many updates since P was out to the market. The automatic update software is installing updates (several packs each time) at the end of each session. If you stop the update this time, the same missing update will come back later. Keeping the OS up-to-day will give you the most complete service from Microsoft.

There shouldn't be that many updates every time you log in but only when your system is out of date in anything. Your probably not allowing the updates to go through and they are trying to restart every time you are turning on your computer. Allow your computer to update and when shutting down usually the computer will shut down on it's own after the updates have been installed.

I don't know if this may apply to you but I read this article today...Here's the headline.

Ditto the above...you can try to "get'er done" in one swell foop (time-consuming...may take a few iterations) by going to http://www.microsoft.com and going through the Software Update and doing all the Windows updates ... a grueling process!

Sometimes, a few of the updates will fail, this way, and you'll have to restart to pick up the updates that succeeded and go back and try again and pick up the updates that failed...

And...as a side note...just in case it applies to you: DO NOT TRY THIS WITH FIREFOX! You MUST use Internet Explorer! Microsoft is persnickety that way... Firefox is ok for everything BUT Windows updates.

right here is an analogy I got here up with those days while somebody i comprehend become doing this. once you flow to mattress at night, would you quite flow by using a recurring that winds you down and gets you waiting for mattress (brush teeth, positioned on PJs, wash up, turn off the lights, etc) or would you quite have somebody punch your head and knock you out, each night? i'm guessing you will want the 1st selection. yet what you're doing on your laptop is in basic terms as undesirable because of the fact the 2nd selection. Your laptop desires to be recommended to close down, so it could wrap issues up, and set equipment records the way they must be. in case you unplug it, some records would be left in undesirable concern, and by using the years your working equipment will start to fail. finally you will have numerous corrupted records which you will ought to reinstall your working equipment, after wiping the no longer ordinary tension thoroughly sparkling. in case you have in no way had to do this earlier, you need to comprehend that it rather is a extreme discomfort interior the ***.

Go to www.microsoft.com and check for updates. Get any and all updates available. That should stop it from having to update each time you log off.
