It's great. I was just sharing a story with with my dad yesterday about this verse. On my mission, almost every church had a marquee that had cute or clever or spiritual sayings every week. Once, one Baptist church put up a request for new ideas to put on the marquee. One companionship sent this verse in (without the reference) and a few weeks later it was up on the marquee. Only a few weeks earlier this same church had posted an announcement for a special class on the evils of the Book of Mormon. It was pretty darn funny

I've read almost none of the bible so of course I'm honored you'd ask. heh.
I would intrepret that, with no other context, as likely meaning either
1. when we serve others we are really not serving them but serving God.
or
2. when we service others we ARE serving God because they, to some degree are what God is comprised of (God is the fellow beings and also God is likely us too.)
I find the latter a more realistic but only from my limited point of view..
pardon my poor grammar.

I try to serve my fellow sibling (spiritually) by donating blood, and taking part in charitable functions. This is not being braggadocios, it is giving those that read this question some insight into what they can do to be in the service of God.

Is that a scripture mastery? lol any way it is a great one! I think it is saying when you are serving your fellow men, you are really only serving God. So serve them as often as possible! =)
*** I wonder how many anti mormons have responded to this and not even realized where the scripture is from? lol

The best (or most effective) way to serve God is to serve our fellow man, our neighbor (as defined by the parable of the Good Samaritan).

One of my favorites. I love how we are reminded that growing in our own wisdom is important to God.
This post reminds me of something though. When my hubby and I were newlyweds (and he had only been off his mission a year) he would "chat" religion on AOL. He would post a daily scripture and it would almost always be from the book of mormon. One day, he had a lady write that it was a beautiful scripture and she wanted to know the reference. After he told her it was from the BofM, she went all ballistic and accused him of trying to brainwash her with beautiful lies. It made me laugh.
EDIT: use the NIV. lol
imamormon2: that's hilarious!

I think it's the best scripture that Sidney Rigdon and Joseph Smith ever wrote together... even if it was inspired from a lecture given to the Smith family by Smith's father.

When you serve others you are doing what deity would want you to do. But hey, some writers like to beat around the bush as is often done in Biblical reference.

It helps me understand what the savior meant when he said the greatest among you is the least.
Service is often equated w giving charity. What is charity but the pure love of Christ. As we serve others, as we demonstrate charity, we are sharing the pure love of christ. As Christ is the Savior of this world, everytime we are charitable, we assist in his work. [Conversely, when we deny others the opportunity to serve us, are we refusing to partake of the love of Christ?]
Thanks for the question -- perhaps we should start one a day for us mormons to kick around?
