By the way, the war ended a couple of years ago in victory--The leader taken down and the army demolished. The troops are now there to help a fledgling democracy with security against terrorists until they can take care of themselves.

Some of you spend too much time on message boards or listening to talk radio, and you buy all that rhetoric. Iraq will soon be a great place to live. The troops are no longer in danger. The Iraq war is winding down. The rest of the middle east sees what is happening in Iraq and will soon have total freedom like Iraq. The middle east loves the USA.

They believe it because that's what they've been told to believe -- and most who choose to believe that only listen to one source of information, so there is nothing to contradict those assumptions.

Anyone who has read many different reports from many different sources knows the issues are far more complex -- and that "happily ever after" is still years or decades away.

You know something...you're right! I just remembered that whole celebration President Bush had when he came swooping down on the aircraft carrier with the big banner "Mission Accomplished"! Damn Libs, always trying to confuse the issues! And you're also right about that whole "securing the democracy" thing. All the bad guys are over there and our troops are defending those democracy hungry people. "Better we fight them over there then here!".
Pretty soon Iraq WILL be a great place to live! I wonder how they'll handle all the immigrants rushing there from the other middle eastern countries!
Pretty soon the people from Iran will be clamoring for freedom and we'll march in there (what the hell, we're next door) with an army of freedom loving Iraqis and democracy will begin it's virus like spread throught all the countries!

even though this iraq conflict is highly publicized through the media, it does not begin to touch on what is really going on there.
and yes the troops ARE in danger. my husband has been to iraq 3 times, and is currently on his way back. he has lost guys ALL 3 TIMES!
i highly doubt the middle east will ever be like the US.
i am a very patriotic person, but we should not have been there in the first place, it was never "ours" to govern.
and what the US always leaves out, is that the US put saddam in power in the first place.

I simply suggest reading some news reports from other countries, middle eastern, european, african, canadian... if you want to know how the US is viewed in relation to any issue, but especially one of such world wide signifigance as our invasion of another country.(which the world violently opposed us doing, the non-muslim world, that is. the muslim world, according to our national security advisor and our leading officers, have been pulled into terrorism, in defense of iraq, against an invading country, us) most home pages have a world news tab, or type in a search query such as "canadian newspapers" then do a second search for articles specific, within one or two of those papers.
If you want to know some facts, find a source that lists how many american soldier die every day, in Iraq. Numerous news services list this number, it will stun you and should be shared with whoever says our troops are safe.
Iraqi people do not want to be forced to be a little america, and won't be. Most consider us to be below them in morality and that we are corrupting their high standards. I disagree with most of what they believe about us, but trying to answer your question. Our president had to give a series of 5 speeches, two and a half years ago, apologizing to teh whole world for invading iraq based on "faulty intelligence" which we claimed was factual and was the reason for invading iraq. Remember the weapons of mass destruction that no shred of evidence has found, but we used as fact for our invasion? Of course, the vice-presidents chief of staff being fired, prosecuted and given a pardon, to cover up the false trail the VP tried to create that lead to the lies we've had to apologize for, kinda put it all in a nutshell.
Bush lied, or believed chaney more likely than not, fought against 93% of the first world nations who told us not to invade iraq but stick with the war on terrorism and al quida attack we began in afganistan, (did u know the war on terror is in afganistan? do you remember when we sorted out the terrorists responsible for 911 and declared open war against them, in afganistan, iraq was quite a bit later and of a different subject.

I don't think the war is close to being over, nor do I think there will ever be peace in the middle East. They have been fighting over a little piece of land since the beginning of time and will until the end of time.

But on a positive note, thank you for all your support of the military. It means so much to soldiers and their families to hear anybody who supports them. We're a military family and truly appreciate all the kind words.

talk about buy rhetoric. this war is anything but over. when ms clinton takes office, the war will not be over. it may be winding down at the end of her first term, maybe not. have you not understood? this is a world war. and not like the last two, they were over in no time. the face of war has changed.

personally i want the troops out. today. massive airlift, bring them home. but i'm no youngster, and i am ex military, so i know the realities we're dealing with. it ain't over til it's over, and i don't hear no fat lady singing.

Yahoooo ! It is so wonderful hearing first hand what is happening. However, here in the USA we are deep in a Presidential election and the War is being used as a weapon against our President Bush, who is not running. But to put down Republican's so that the Democrats can slide in and save us all.
Especially when the big Kahuna running is a Clinton. Remember the Persian Gulf War? Most here have no idea.
Thank you so much for posting this. I am very grateful. Mahalo.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

thats hilarious!!!!
I think you are being a little bit taken over by republic support speeches, with overtones of crazy republican conservative slave dealer about it.
The troops in iraq are seen as infidels, they are seen as crusaders, destroying the holy lands of the muslims. If they were christians the troops would have been killed alot worse than that! (I say that out of evidence not bias)
With suddam hussein out of the way the government is talking the fledgling government, but only with the INFIDELs gone can iraq really make a DEMOCRATIC government.

Well, every soldier I personally talk to says we are winning, every soldier I see on the news says we're winning. These politicians who are against the war have never stepped foot on Iraq. But Bush has.I don't care if he just spent a few hours there,at least he did go there.Maybe Bush isn't the coward everyone wants him to be.
