Just as a side note, I am 23 and single (no kids). All of my commuting expenses will be paid (gas/parking or Metro fare) and I will receive full benefits. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!

That's gonna be tough. You have no idea how expensive it is to live in Maryland

Will you consider a commute? If you want to live close in it's going to be very tight. Bethesda is extremely expensive, but there are communities not too far from Bethesda which are less expensive (I'm thinking Silver Spring and Rockville, but be very careful about neighborhoods in both of those areas. Some are pretty rough). Also, I think you would have to rent. Housing prices here are very high even in not so great areas. In Bethesda the median new house price is 1 million dollars. I live in a Bethesda neighborhood where teardowns go for 650,000+. I would also consider promotion potential and also the fact that jobs are pretty plentiful here so there's usually good opportunity to job hop to get a large salary increase with a few years experience. Obviously if you would be willing to get a roommate that would help. That might be the way to go for the first year as get to know the area.

I dont know the living expenses there but I say if you are going to live alone, then rent a small apartment, that way you can stash away the most of your pay check in case one day you want a family or a house. Also utilities are way cheaper

Sure, you just need to watch where you live as housing is the most expensive item is Washington. Good Luck.

Go to salary.com and see what the cost of living is compared to where you are now, that will at least give you a comparison as to wages, and costs to make a better decision as to whether you will be ahead or behind.

no way. The living cost over there is really pricey. I suggest you look for places before you make this decision.

If your single, yes. If your married with kids, it will be tight. It all depends on where you live. What kind of car you drive and so on.
