Because one must exist for the other to have any purpose, so they can only have the same amount of power. If it were not for Satan, there would be no purpose of God. Therefore, they have the same amount of purpose for living.

This is the way I understand the story and tradition ...
God has always been god and the omnipotent power. Satan was a created being who rebelled against the creation and ultimately the Creator. Satan was cast down until an appointed day when he would finally be destroyed.
What I don't understand within the lattice of this story is how much, as you rightfully said, Satan is now just as powerful as god. It would appear so with all of the evil, injustice and malice in this world. It doesn't make sense, just as you said!
I guess in the end if the story ends up being true (?) Satan will be destroyed, cast down into the fire or whatever. In the meantime the rest of us get to wallow in the misery of this personality conflict. Take care.

Oh no! Satan is not 1/2 as powerful as God! He thought he was better off than God (even though he never was, is or will be) when he was an angel so God kicked him and his followers out of heaven. He made them hell. That is a place for Satan and his evil angels. Us humans choose to go there when you dont accept Jesus christ into your heart. God never intended humans to go to hell.

Okay. God created the angel Lucifer. When Lucifer equated himself with God and got other angels to worship him, God kicked them all out of heaven. God then gave to Satan the power given to him. (See Luke 4:6) When the devil/Satan was tempting Jesus in the dessert, he said he would give Jesus all the power given to him (Satan) if Jesus would worship him (Satan). That tells me that God gave Satan the power he has and remember the book of Job, God gave Satan permission to do anything he wanted to Job but he wasn't allowed to kill him. God gives the power and the permission to use it. So, NO they are not one and the same, Satan was created by God.

You need to go research Egyptian mythology. Satan was borrowed from Egyptian mythology, the name was Set (ruler of darkness). He was originally a God, an enemy of Horus (ruler of light), who was also a God. Of course when trying to make a story monotheistic, one has to decrease the powers of certain characters. This is where Satan the angel comes in.
Horus was born of the virgin Isis on December 25th in a cave/manger.
Horus' birth was announced by a star in the East and attended by three wise men.
The infant Horus was carried out of Egypt to escape the wrath of Typhon. The infant Jesus was carried into Egypt to escape the wrath of Herod. Concerning the infant Jesus, the New Testament states the following prophecy: "Out of Egypt have I called my son." (Matt. 2:15)
He was a child teacher in the temple and was baptized by “Anup the Baptizer” when he was thirty years old.
He had twelve disciples and performed miracles such as feeding bread to the multitude and walking on water.
He raised one man, El-Azar-us (sounds familiar), from the dead.
These are just a handful of parallels. The bible took many things from Egyptian mythology.

Satan is not as powerful as God, even though a large number of Evangelical Christians like to portray him as having far more power than he actually has.

God created an incredible nimber of Angels and Lucifer was the chief of all these, but he is still a creature in spite of this.
Lucifer/Satan is only powerful when we buy into his lies,Jesus called him the Father/originator of lies, in the great battle in Heaven he was over-powered and defeated by Michael the Archangel who stayed loyal to God and recieved great power for his loyalty.

Satan was one of the angels in heaven in the pre existence before we came to earth...He defied God and started a war he and 1/10th the hosts of heaven were expelled. Satan came here to earth to terrorize men mostly because he was expelled and because he did not receive a mortal body. He is powerful but not as powerful as Jesus or Heavenly Father(God). You can cast Satan and his followers out of your mist by declaring so in the name of Jesus Christ. Since Satan has no body we can allow him to take over ours by actions etc.
Hope this makes sense to you. Life here is a test Satan is allowed to tempt us we can and should avoid his temptations and strive to be disciples of Christ. Satan is not as powerful as God we have allowed Satan to become as powerful as he is by letting him influence us for bad.

he's not as powerful as God. he is not even as powerful as we are. it's just that we generally don't have the faith to know our own potential. the problem with the bible is that early Christians tried to remove every reference to satan there is. if you check into some of the books that the Mormons believe are scripture and ancient records it goes into more detail of who satan truly is and what i he is capable of.
