Bad breath in cats is very uncommon.
Normally it's a sign of a mouth/dental problem of some sort...rotten tooth, mouth abcess, tartar on teeth etc.
There can be other diagnoses as well so monitor the animals health closely.
If the cat is otherwise well and happy, it's likely to be a dental issue.
In which case, plenty of biscuits/dry food will help clean gums and teeth.
If the cat is somewhat off colour...straight to the vet as it could signal something far more serious!
Good Luck!
Cheers :)

My cats food sticks to the side of their mouth near their back teeth... I try whenever I can remember to clean it out usually with a papertowel. Those cat treats/fresheners "Pit 'R' Pat" are supposed to freshen the breath and my cats go CRAZZZZY for it...they absolutely love it like no other treat...they're about $3.50 for one small box thing. But I dont smell a difference. Also, theres a book Natural Pet Cures, had a solution for bad breath but I dont remember what it was. Hopefully you'll find something because my cats breath smell too!

Whoa wait, people. Bad breath is most often the symptom of an underlying sickness or disease. Sinus infections can cause the breath to smell very bad. So can kidney disease, an absessed tooth, several other illnesses. Please get this cat to vet to be checked out instead of just making the problem.
FYI - if you're feeding your cat canned foods and it's fish based this can be pretty stinky. Try switching to poultry-based canned foods which are actually healthier for cats than fish.

Some kinds of food cause smell like fish, but also some times the bad smell could be a sign of the cat having dental problem or suffering from hving bacteria in the digesting system, I think it would be better if the bad breath is strong, and the food is not from whst it cause bad breath that you take your cat to the vet.

Take a peek in the lions mouth. lol Check for pink gums and healthy looking teeth. If all looks ok, go get some pet grass, chewing on this acts a little like a toothbrush and cleans the mouth. Give clean water EVERY day and try more dry food and less wet food. Some fishy breath is normal, if you are worried make a quick visit to the vet.

My 14 y.o. ragdoll has the worst breath too. But he is old, doesn't have that many teeth left, so a cleaning is out of the question because he couldn't tolerate anesthesia, etc. His fur has long smelled like Fritos, so we just laugh. He has been proven healthy otherwise. Maybe I'll get him some kitty mints.

You could try PetzLife oral care gel (www.petzlife.com), but if your cat's breath is extremely bad, you may want to take it to a vet and have its mouth checked out. It could have a bad tooth or severe tartar buildup.

Its odd for cats to have bad breath unlike dogs. I would be looking inside there for a bad or rotten tooth.

It is probably because of tartar build up on its teeth. Purchase the cat treats that are labeled tartar control. Give one or 2 a day and in a week or two the breath will be better.
