I don't think that you'll ever get a 100% answer to your question. I definately see some kind of bully breed in him (i.e. American pit bull terrier, AmStaff, etc). Your best bet is asking the vet, but even still my vet called my St. Bernard/Collie cross was a shepherd mix. So, unfortunately you'll never get an exact breed. You can guess at it though. Honestly, I don't see lab or shepherd, which is surprising as most mix breeds have some mix of either. I see a little basenji, which is probably unlikely, but the ears look it.
He is not a full AmStaff, as they have floppy ears like the APBT. They are near the same breed with a few characteristic variances. AmStaffs are shorter and broader all around. Even holding the ears upward, the full AmStaff would not be able to do so as proper as this dog. My APBT, holds one ear straight up occasionally, and you can see the strain in her ear to do so.
"Pit bull" is a classification not a breed.
It is true that many people assume that broad, short haired dogs are a bully breed. But this dog is... I've seen my share of accused APBT's amd AmStaffs over the years. And whether it is truly and AmStaff, couldn't tell you, but it definately has some bully breed. If the dog had German Shepher, it's coat wouldn't be as short and fine.

Everyone always assumes that any muscular dog with a short snout and flat coat is a Pit Bull breed (APBT, AmStaff, of Staff Bull). They are great dogs that get a bad name due to too much popularity, improper identification, and irresponsible owners.
Bottom line is that your dog COULD be part Staffie, but could not be. I also would've guessed a bit GSD. The only way you'll know for sure is by getting the breed test as someone else has mentioned... or finding out what the parents were (and there still could be improper ID even if you tracked them down)
When it comes down to it, as long as you raise it nicely and it's a good dogs- that's ALL that matters. :)
Good luck with your new dog!!!

Looks like a pit and shepherd or doberman- his head isn't nearly as blocky as most staffies but you can tell it is there, and the shape of the head and the stand-up ears look like a shepherd or so. As long as he's a sweetie!

There's a good chance he may just be a staffy without the ears docked. But if I had to guess, maybe a german shepard or a doberman, I'm sure he can hear stuff from a mile away! Beautiful dog though...

I think maybe mixed with some kind of shepherd. Probably a German Shepherd judging by the ears. Cute dog!
