As the above pointed out: the Roosevelt Island tram resembles a ski gondola.
The closest thing NYC had to a ski lift was a ski tow-rope in Van Cortland park in the Bronx during the 50s & 60s.

No ski lift in Manhatten. Strictly elevators and plenty of them everywhere. You must be talking about Roosevelt Island and the wired cable car that looks like a small bus ski lift.

I don't know for certain but there is a Cable Car that goes from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island it could be that!?
