I am a junior in college and when I was 19 I got arrested for retail shoplifting under $150. It was a misdemeanor hence the under $150. Will this hurt my chances of getting a job in high school education later? Should I change my major? I don’t have anything else on my record and I did everything I was supposed to do. I paid my fine to the city and to the store within the given amount of time and no court appearance was required. Will this eventually leave my record or should I give up my dream of teaching? I know that this was stupid so please don’t tell me how dumb it was because I already know. Thanks in advance

If you dream of teaching please do not give up. The bulk of teachers today are there because they can't do anything else.

Whether you find emplyment or not will most likely depend on your major more than your misdemeanor record. Call a local board of education and ask at human resources. Good Luck!
