When a pregnancy is lost, it is usually due to a virus such as canine herpes. If your dog was indeed pregnant, and lost the litter, you should have her spayed. You don't want her to spread the disease to males who will then spread it further to other dogs.

Toward the end of the pregnancy the puppies drop and it does appear that the femail has lost weight. She doesn't look as round after they drop. If she is indeed pregnant, that is probably what is going on.

Did you have the pregnancy verified by radiograph (xray)? My dog had a false pregnancy with her last heat, and the same thing happened - big belly one day, normal the next.

Has your dog grown boobs? Sorry, that's an indelicate question but if her nipples aren't full of milk it's most likely a false pregnancy.

Was your dog in a situation where she would become pregnant? Did you have the pregnancy verified?

Go to the vet for a checkup. If she is not pregnant have him spay her. If she is pregnant, you will need his help and then you can make a spay appointment for after her litter is weaned.
