Avoid the big Klunk! the rear U joint shaps off and the drive shaft whips around smashing everything it hits. ANd old Cherokee just did not have a fire breathing V-8 engine. You can floor the throttle and might get 5,000 rpm's out of that old motor with the valves floating trust me that is not the car you want to burn rubber in.

do not tossw it into drive, that is the worst thing you can do, if it is an 4 wheel drive then take it outta 4 wheel so that its 2 wheel, then hold on the brake and push the gas, if it is a manual transmission its a bit more tricky cause you have to hold the brake and push the gas with the same foot, and let off the clutch with the other,
but "burning rubber" is just a waste of time and money

Why waste your money burning up rubber?
Nobody is impressed.
You may also break a u-joint, damage the transfer case, or damage the transmission. Try taking care of your vehicle instead, or are your parents paying for all of the repairs anyway? Give them a break.

If I want to burn rubber I'll drive my 1990 Mustang LX 5.0.
There are no tricks. You need the right car for the right job.

Although some people think its really cool, it is not recommended. It puts tremendous strain on the driveline and you will break something. Then it will be very expensive to fix. If you want to keep driving the vehicle and don't want to throw money away, then take care of it and don't abuse it.

If you have an automatic, then toss it in neutral and rev the engine up, then toss it in drive. This is very very hard on your tranny, so be careful. If its a RWD, once you start sliding your tires, press on the brakes and floor it. Should keep you pretty much stationary, and keep the tires burning. Manuals, just put it in first gear and rev it up, then drop the clutch. Same idea with the brakes.
