Ok....definitely go to a salon...but I have a suggestion for you. Yes, blonde high lights look great on brown hair, but at first I would go really subtle..just to see how you like it. And might sure that you go with foil hairlighting, because pulling your hair through a cap will damage your hair ten times more. If you do like it, then I would go w/ a slightly lighter blonde, till you get the shade you desire.
Do remember that this will be somewhat of a life changing event for your hair, and once you start highlighting, you almost have to keep doing it. Dark roots look awful when they grow out too much...plus, you will never get your hair back to your "natural" color unless you let the highlighted parts grow out and cut them off.
GOOD LUCK!!!

You can lighten it successfully with dyes you buy in the shops, eg loreal is a good brand. A dye can take your hair several tones lighter, so it depends how dark you are as to the shade you could achieve. If you want to go a lot lighter than your present shade you may need to bleach and in that case you're better off going to a salon cos at least you can sue them if they mess it up!
I helped my sister bleach her hair once and it went kind of yellow. Also we ran out of solution half way through and had to send her boyfriend running to the drugstore for more. It was kind of stressful. She still managed to look like a rock star but that's cos she's that kind of chick. It wouldn't have worked for me!
A good way to experiment with blondeness is by getting highlights done at a salon. That's cheaper than a full head and can look nicer if it's done properly.
Good luck. It's true that blondes get more attention, but it's up to you whether you think that's fun or not.

Go to a salon! In order to dye it blonde from brown you would have to bleach it first (either way you choose) so it's better to have a professional do it so it doesn't damage your hair. Going darker is easy to do yourself, but going lighter...I would not reccomend!!

I would go to a salon unless you wanted to be a redhead!
IF you do it yourself, I would suggest doing it slowly by shades. Don't just try to go from one extreme to the next, and depending on your hair, a salon may also say the same thing.
It's very bad for your hair to do that and will strip it causing it to become pretty weak.
Girl! Brunettes have more fun anyway! lol
nah.. good luck tho. :o)

I think that you should go to the salon. Usually when you try to lighten your hair at home you get the brassiness(orange/red tones). Most of the home kits don't have the bleach in them. You need a professional to bleach you hair to the level you want. Also you still have to think about the color of your eyebrows.

Don't dye your hair. Brunettes rock. =)
But if you must, definitely go to a salon.

if your going to get it done then 100% go to the salon. professional and way better because box color is really really bad and the color never goes right. but I suggest no coloring because you if you pernament you can never get your natural color back and you have to keep getting your hair touched up or hair color fades and its a pain and expensive.
