I don't know where you live, but our agency of over 1000 officers don't have the latest cars. I have an assigned car, 2003, Ford with 56 k on it. My agency gets on average 7 years out of our assigned cars. Some more, some less.

Most agencies that do not have assigned cars means the cars run 24 / 7. So, they wear out pretty fast. A police car on the street running this way will wear out in 2 or 3 years tops.

So, maybe where you live they all have fleet cars that are on the road all the time. So, it may seem like they have new cars but in fact they are a year or two old with 100 k or more on them. And that doesn't take into account the engine running constantly and the wear and tear they get under extreme conditions.

Once they get to a certain mileage they become too cost prohibitive to maintain and thus its cheaper to buy new ones than to fix the old ones. Plus, you have to have a working fleet of cars. You don't want to be the one that needs the police and they can't get there as all the cars are down for work.

Would you want to drive 120 mph in a car with 200K miles on it?

It's because they run the crap out of them 24/7. If you drove your car like that, you'd need a new on too.

Its cheaper to buy new cars than maintain an old vehicle that gets that much hard milage.

because of the fact, they are in a position to't be changing tires, cleansing their spark plugs, changing a bumper, changing a battery, putting in oil, and fixing their transmissions interior the direction of a motor vehicle chase!

after 3 years they would be riding on junk-mobiles. they put a lot of wear and tear on those vehicles along with a LOT of mileage. besides if you need help would not be nice if they could get to you?as opposed to the garage

Because they don't want to have their car attatched to a tow truck in a chase.

they don't pay for them, taxpayers do. my hometown, which i refuse to live in,is buying dodge chargers. of course they only have twenty cars so it may take them two years to replace them.
