Just a question that a friend was trying to figure out. He eats a soup at a restaurant and the cook told him how much salt was being used for the whole pot. Thanks.

I gallon contains 16 cups (8 oz per cup).

so 1 cup of salt per 16 cups of broth = 1/16 cup of salt (which is equal to 3 tablespoons of salt) is the amount of salt in an 8 oz cup.

3Tablespoons is a lot of salt for 1 cup of broth.
Are you sure you heard that correctly?

1 cup has 16 tablespoons.

1 gallon of broth has 1 cup of salt, and there are 16 cups in a gallon, so isn't that 1/16 of a cup?

Yikes. There are 28 grams in an ounce. 14 grams of salt in your broth cup.

EDIT: I think I jumped from volume to weight. I hate math. If 1/16 of a cup=1/2 fluid ounce, that equals One Tablespoon. I think that's right.
