I am 27 years old and have had increasingly more bouts with panic attacks and coping problems (crying over EVERYTHING) starting when I was 19 years old. 4 months ago my mother had a brain tumor removed (benign) and since her diagnosis, I have had crippling panic attacks and unconsolable crying/ feelings of hopelessness 2-3 times a week. I have quit my job, have no libido, and no energy whatsoever. My insurance doesn't cover any "mental health" issues (i've checked)....and I don't want to become addicted to taking medication everyday. What do I do to cope better and control my feelings of fear/anxiety/helplessness?

P.S....
to all of you who suggest the pot-smoking route....I'm a daily smoker of the pot already and it helps with the anxiety, but worsens the "energy/libido" issue.

The "treatment" does not have to be addictive or long-term. This may be "situational". I had a similar situation several years ago, dealing with the death of my mother-in-law, the loss of my job (not by choice) and moving to a new home -- all in the same 6 weeks! I totally wrecked. I found a GOOD doctor (regular one, not psychiatrist) that put me on a VERY mild anti-depressant called BUSPAR, at a minimal doseage. It worked wonderfully. I could cope, but could still feel my emotions as needed. I was on for 6 months, which gave me time to stabilize -- and that was it. I tapered off (not hard, when you are taking so little) and have not needed any further medication since.

there are a number of drugs that help with tension matters. a number of those are quite complicated to withdraw from inspite of a doctor's help. Psychiatric drugs are many times "bandaid" suggestions to the underlying reason. till now attempting drugs, you could desire to objective treatment to verify why you're hectic. Or, circulate to a stable nutritionalist, and locate out what, if any, nutrition you're unfavorable in or have an a strategies better than. Magnesium deficiency, case in point, can convey approximately tension. you will take a psychiatric drug and no longer sense hectic, yet their physique continues to be no longer working good because of the fact the deficiency has no longer been addressed.

You need professional help. You can get all kinds of advice from all kinds of people, none of which will help. If your insurance dosnt cover psyche treatment, talk to your pcp and tell him your problem. He can prescribe something for you that might help. Taking medication eveyday is better than living the way you are living right now. If you were a diabetic or had a heart problem, you wouldnt mind taking medication for that every day. You mental health is every bit as important as your physical health.

snoopstacystace - you are overwhelmed! Anxiety is just another word for fear. You have been stressed out for a long time and you do not know how to process through and release your stress and now that stress is taking it's toll on your body.

Please know that Emotions are ENERGIES IN MOTION in our bodies.

Every time you don't allow yourself or you aren't allowed to fully experience an emotion, to feel it, and to move through it, the energy of that emotion becomes stopped and blocked in your body. Blocked emotions in the body can manifest in angry outbursts, crying, lack of energy, etc. The blocked emotions remain blocked until you go back and re-experience those emotions. Then the energetic block is freed and cleared. Virtually all of our physical ailments come from energetic blocks in our bodies, energetic patterns that are connected to our emotional patterns

One good way to get release blocked emotions is to use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or Emotional Tapping. In EFT you apply gentle acupressure tapping to specific body points to release blocked emotions. EFT is easy to learn (you can learn the basics in 15-30 minutes). You can use EFT anytime, anywhere for any emotional or physical issue. One basic round of EFT takes about one minute to complete. EFT works quickly and painlessly.

Please download the FREE EFT Instructional manual from the EFT website (www.emofree.com). Also, please watch the FREE Introductory video. Also check out the section on the EFT website on "Stress and Anxiety" under the "What is EFT" button.

I learned EFT last year and use it everyday for everything. EFT has changed my life. If you just use it for a few minutes everyday you will find yourself calmer and and less stressed.

Good luck

I had this anxiety attack last 2 years ago. I was so depressed and so hopeless.
Then, I realised I don't want this to rule me or to attack me again.
I registered myself to gym and do my program religiously. I avoid unhealthy food. I still have my cheat day though. I managed to have a positive outlook in life.
Finally, friends would always make us feel better. Try to gather more.

Smoke pot. I know your thinking um, no. But seriously I have all of the same things that you do and am not covered by my insurance at this time as well. I used to be and so I know what I feel like when I am on the meds that I am supposed to be on and seriously pot is the closest you will find on this Earth. So I urge you to push the stigmas and stereotypes out of your mind and at least look into it more. Good luck!

Cannabis has a long history of effectively treating anxiety disorders. And, you can minimize "energy loss," by consuming it in a tinture form, as this completely minimizes the "lazy feeling" while delivering the anxiety-relieving compounds to your brain.

First stop, exercise, good diet and a generally healthy lifestyle.
The depression you are feeling are natural for the mental anguish you have been experiencing with your mother. Your job situation must also be creating a financial burden on you that also can contribute to anxiety. Most anxiety can be dispelled with a healthy change in activity. Try it.

If you were in school, I would say try the free counseling center. Right now all I can suggest is that you read and educate yourself on your condition as best you can. The only way to try to take care of the problem right now is to know more about it. I wish you luck.
