I'm a Christian. Dominionism scares me. In fact, any attempts at merging church and state are extremely scary. I'm a Christian, and would gladly fight against the idea of turning any country into a theocracy.

The fact that it still exists is already scary enough.

If you're not counting that, then perhaps I could say the discrepancy between what the Bible actually says and what self-described 'christians' believe and support. I mean, take a look around and see how these people talk. They see the Bible saying that male homosexual intercourse is bad and immediately condemn all homosexuals, while in the meantime strongly advocating war (which goes against commandment 6). Where the Bible says to love they neighbor and turn the other cheek and so on, these people totally disregard it and start talking about more war, more death penalty, more guns, etc. Religion is bad enough to begin with, but modern christianity would seem a lot more peaceful and friendly if its followers actually FOLLOWED it, rather than twisting what it says to fit their own selfish, hateful ideas.

That the are willfully ignorant of modern science and medicine. Not all of them obviously. But these are the main reasons the faith is declining. It's hard to keep up "pretense" when science proves them wrong. Look at the whole shape of the earth thing. And then they home school thier children with nothing but the Bible. It's the dark ages all over again. What is going to happen to those kids? They'll be made fools of when they leave home. It's sad.

The lack of reverence for what Christianity is all about. The attitude of many Christians today seems to be something like this: "Now that I'm saved, I can do whatever I want and not worry about it." And I believe that attitude is distorting the image of Christianity in today's world.

I am not a Christian per se, but I do not think there is a monolithic Christianity to worry about. Of course there are plenty of examples of intolerance to be found on this very page, but the ones I know, for the most part, are fairly decent people.

That people pretend to be christian and Muslim and catholic and whatever. They go into church temple or whatever and then come out and go to fight wars, slaughter animals fight bulls and so on. Organised religion is just so obnoxious, it is all the nasty traits of mankind being utilised at the expense of mans goodness. As for the contributions and artifacts (Gold crosses and so on, just think of how much money they could raise to help mankind it really is obscene and scary).

Some of my fears in no special order:
* That the judgments made by many goes against the compassion that people are capable of when they are not blinded by "right and wrong"
* That my sons may be misled to believe that they can hate in the name of God. (for which I am ever on guard)
* That so many feel they have the right to impose their beliefs on others.

What scares me is people who are teaching a false or twisted gospel and are so prolific at it, people in some countries actually think we will *eat* their babies.
I have a friend who went to Aceh after the tsunami (and several times since) who was told by many people that they were told we were cannibles, we will torture them (ala the inquisition) and hit them with our bibles.
Though she can't talk to them about Jesus, she can and has helped them understand we don't want to torture them, hit them and eat their babies.

OH (after reading one above) the way the History Channel and Discovery Channel both take the more radical ideas of different denominations and say "Christians believe..."

Count me with Solarius - Dominionism is some scary, scary stuff. They're anxious for their end of the world, and are willing to do what it takes to bring it around as soon as possible.
