Mmmmmk, so God said "let there be light," and boom, everything went from there. Now, sound waves require a medium in which to travel. Since God hasn't "created" anything yet, how could he have said that? Also, where was God when he said it? There was nothing around him to hear him say that, so why would he say it? How do we know that he said it if we weren't "created" yet? Why would God tell us what he said in the Bible? Did the people who wrote the Bible not think this through all the way?

The Sun is approximately 4.5 billion years old. The creation story dates the Earth (and the Sun) at about 6,000 years old.
That should answer any other questions you might have.

Who did God say these statements too? His angels of course. Did he use sound when making these statements? Hard to say, considering we're talking about the spirit world and not the physical world. They may not need "sound" vibrations to get their points across.
As for "Let there be Light," he was using this in the formation of the Earth, not the universe. If you read the Bible, you'll see that the Earth was a formless dark wasteland. Every step God takes during the creation seems to follow what evolutionists think happened as how the world came into being.
Also these passages were written by Moses, through diving inspiration. Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible. Naturally, Moses was not present during the creation, so how did he get such knowledge? Through God of course.

Light doesn't always mean sunlight..I can turn on a light bulb. The Big Bang reduced down is ...first there was nothing ..then there was something and BOOM the Universe with all it's laws and forces began.. Light does travel through space..Both in the Bible and in Physics. This is our physical universe..NOT just Earth. we are aware of what our senses tell us. Through technology we have discovered a great many things we don't "see"..including wave lengths of light we don't see with our eyes.
Is this the only universe? Are there other dimensions. Questions science asks. Did you know that some of the first to speculate that there were other dimensions and universes were ancient Jewish Rabbis and scholars?.
Where was God..outside time and space. Why would he say that. because His word was the force that created.

The Earth had already been Created befor GOD Said "let there be Light".
It is in Genesis.

Let there be Light was not the Big Bang.

I Believe the Dino's were on the Earth and GOD took out all of the Light (heat too!).
They froze almost Instantly.

Later, GOD decided to do something Else (besides Dino's) and said Let there be Light and The Earth warmed up and Things Started Happening Again---Thus Leaving Dino Bones for us to Find! But, Not Fight!
Thanky Jesus!

(could you Imagine having to live with those Things? Zurassic Park all over again!)

Clever question. It is EXTREMLEY hard to grasp the concept of somthing that has always been, when our lives are governed so much by time. It is also hard to grasp that god is everywhere at once. He's not sitting in a throne in the clouds, he's in our hearts and souls, in everything. Technically, he could have MEANT "Let there be light". Its the same concept as when your dog "tells" you its hungry. The dog dosen't actually say anything, but you know just the same. Theres no way to know for sure exactly what happend, but the important thing is to know how great god is, not to analize every single sentence for itself. The point of the creation story is to generally say that god created the earth and all the rules that go with it. I'm not saying that the bible dosen't leave us with some questions. How long is seven days to a being that has no time to limit it? How does he "create" anything? All these answes will be given to us in heaven. Gots to be patient and make your own answer to satisfy yourself till then.

God spoke and said let there be light. Moses wrote down the first 5 books of the Bible and that is what he recorded. Now the 3500 years later after science saying the universe always existed were proven long by Hubble and his observations of the motion of stars and then the get as far as the big bang... oops.... in the first second there were sub atomic particles, energy plasma... and light... oops it only took 3500 years for men to figure out what a sheppard was told by God.

"If I had no other data than the early chapters of Genesis, some of the Psalms and other passages of Scripture, I would have arrived at essentially the same picture of the origin of the universe, as is indicated by the scientific data." Nobel Prize-winning physicist Arno Penzias (Big Bang Theorist)

I'm sorry but one thing you don't understand is that God is I am and when he wants something done it wil be done. So when he said" let there be light" it was so because he has the authority to speak something into existence.Maybe he told us this because then if he didn't people would probably be asking "Well why didn't he say Let there be light. Our problem as human beings is that we try to understand God right down to the nitty griity, but you have to know that we can't possibly comprehend him at all , we only look at the little picture when God already knows where we will be in 20 yrs and even the exact time and place where we will die

As I read the Biblical account, it does not say he was speaking to Adam or Eve. What is does seem to say is he was speaking to some other identity, when he said "let us make man, in our own image". This would suggest there was others in the same location he was, when the fact was accomplished. This further suggests that "mankind" could have been created in some other image. However it was deemed preferable to make "mankind" in ....their own image. Thus we would not have known about such advents until later when the account was retold. It would further seem he was in some other location. Consider a builder of any human structure such as an engineer or architect may not be at the site of a proposed construction project when it is started.

God having "said" something is a way for us to understand it in human terms. When God "said' let there be light, he could have said it audibly, mentally, or simply willed it, and it was. And because he caused light in our universe does not mean there was nothing prior, or that he simply existed apart from other creatures such as angels. Perhaps within his own council of Father, Son and Holy Spirit the saying of this first creation event was recorded. That we know He did something to cause our world is information he revealed to Moses on Sinai, and was then put into written form for us. For God to relay that he is the first cause, and then to continue explaining our creation was a matter of jumping to that which pertained to us. He is eternal, and we are finite. We only need to know that the eternal began our finite universe (which included us) into existence with a word, or meaningful thought, and then go from there. I think you are not quite thinking this through all the way. Nothing said contradicts what we know, nor is it illogical.

My response is from a neutral standpoint. You can not honestly believe that a being that created everything can not make a sound in a place just because you can't. If you believe in God then you have to believe he did those things, after all he made a man out of a pile of dirt. If you don't believe in God then your argument doesn't hold enough ground to convince the people who do.

The Bible has been edited and it is not a direct quote from God per se but let me answer that from a faith perspective as best I can.

All revealed scriptures are in a sense baby talk. The infinitew communicating with the finite explaining things in terms that we can grasp. Remember that when Moses(peace be upon him) was walking the Earth nobody had even seen a flushing toilet. Algebra had yet to be invented , and the chariot was state of the art transportation. The only way to explain the universe scientifically and with accuracy is by using terms that were not even in existence at the time like quantum physics ,nuclear fusion , supernova, etc.

In other words Moses(peace be upon him) and any other prophet would have to have recieved a whole library worth of scientific revelation just to grab the basic idea explained in Genesis with just a few short verses.

Rather than explain Xrays and ,light rays, and sound waves, and molecular biology God just tells us that everything has a divine origin.

Also religions are not for the purpose of explaining things scientifically. This is not their role. They are primarily SOCIAL institutions . The issues they adress are about how we relate to ourselves , each other , and the world around us.

Whether we agree with what one religion or another says this is what the subject is.

Often when viewed in historical context things make more sense. For instance dinosaur bones were belived by ancients to be the bones of monsters and dragons. Of course since they did not have carbon dating etc. There was no way for them to know that such bones were 65 million years old as opposed to d5 years old or even 65 weeks or days.

The three Abrahamic religions Judaism,Christianity, and Islam (at least in the view of those who folow them) are directed mainly at encouraging good behavior , forbidding bad behavior , and explaining the difference between the two. Thou shall not commit murder thou shall not steal thou shall not commit adultery.

The stories in the scriptures are there to a. give a brief history of the faith and the relationship of its followers to God
b. Illustrate a point. Like the story of Job deals with he coomon question "where is God when tragedy strikes?" c. To set an example of good and bad characters and what God thinks about them.

I hope I'm not rambling too much, but let me make it aliitle more concise.

I have very beautiful intelligent children, but due to the fact that I am decades older tha them I often see things from a perspective they are unable to. Sometimes I explain things to them by telling them a story. This does not mean the story is a lie, it may even be factually true, but the reason I am telling them the story is to aid their understanding. I would not use this method with adults

But to God , whom assuming He created the universe must be biilions of years old, we are ALL children relative to his age and experience and this is why He talks to us this way through the scriptures.

I hope my answer makes sense to you, and I hope I have not misled you in any way as my own knowledge is limited but this is how I understand it.
