or maybe it's just as simple as people like to date people with the same beliefs. we don't have to do anything. most Mormons have a great understanding of their faith and that is why they choose to date someone of the same religion. or maybe she realized how quickly you believe stupid folklore and didn't want to waste her time.

Nope, not at all.
Here's the reason.
Mormons believe that if 2 people who have been Baptized and then made sacred promises in the Temple get married in the Temple, that the marriage can and will last for eternity and that the family unit can be together forever. Only worthy LDS adults can enter the temple and make these promises.
Mormons can marry non-Mormons or Mormons outside of the Temple, however they wouldn't be married to that person for this life as well as eternity.
You end up marrying who you date. If you date non-mormons, you'll marry a non-mormon and get married outside the temple.
If you only marry Mormons, you can get married for eternity in the Temple.
She wants to marry someone that she can be with forever and not just 60 or so years of mortality.

I have a cousin who married a born again christian, she is a mormon. The church doesn't tell you who to marry. They encourage marriage in the faith, but dont mandate it.
Marriage is a tuff thing to hold together without differences of oppionion getting in the way. There are a lot of things that are discouraged when marrying. Like a black marrying a white.
Is there anything wrong with that, NO, not at all, but it doesn't happen much, cause the extra strain on the marriage posed by differences in beliefs, and traditions, that put stress on marriage. Is it wrong or forbidden to marry different cultures, religions, and others of differences. NO, not at all. It happens all the time, it just puts strain on the marriage. Some of those marriages dont last.

It is a common misconception that Mormons can't date outside of their own faith, but that's not true. The Mormon Church does not forbid you to date or associate with anyone; it is up to the individual Church member whether or not they want to date someone. In fact, I have dated a lot of girls that were not Mormon. The thing is, some Church members only want to date members or their same faith, because they want to marry someone of their same faith. They do this because they want someone that shares their same beliefs, and will raise their kids in the Mormon faith. It is the same for any religion, people who are devout in their beliefs want to be with someone that is equally devout in the same belief; in order to avoid conflict over ideological differences, etc. Also, your comment about keeping it in the family was not only rude, but it could give us a hint as to why she didn't want to date you.

There is no official church doctrine stating that Mormons can't date people of other faiths. It is recommended though that they date people of similar beliefs and values.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is perhaps the only religion that believes marriage is eternal and not just something you do during mortality if it suites you. As such you can expect Mormons to be more particular about who they date. After all, you marry the same kind of people you date.

It is because members of the LDS church believe that it is possible to be sealed to your spouse for time and all eternity through the priesthood. However, this is only done in the temple, and obviously only those who believe can have it done (Why else would you do it?), so only people who have been baptized by the proper authority and are worthy can enter the temple.
Basically, she won't date you, because she can't marry you in the temple.
LDS members are also encouraged to date people with high morals. This applies to people both within the LDS church and non-members. There is not judgment that says nonmembers are immoral. There are tons of great people who just don't believe yet.
Good question though. I am glad you asked.

It's because they someday want to marry in the temple. If you're not lds, you can't go in there. They believe that getting married in the temple is for time and all eternity. She wants to be married forever not just til death. That's why she won't date non lds. That isn't the case for every lds girl though. Some just have their sights set to the temple.

there is a lot of strain on a marriage when you believe completely different things.
there is just too much that we abstain from and makes it hard when you dont see whats wrong. chastity is one factor, but it is not the only one.
also, we believe in being sealed for time and eternity to our spouses, which only happens in the temple, and only if you are worthy (which means you would need to be mormon)

I know plenty of people who are married to Mormons who are not Mormon themselves (I live in Salt Lake.) It is really not that big of a deal. Most people just tend to want to date people who have the same beliefs as them.
I am agnostic and am with a mormon. We even have a baby out of wedlock. lol
