Oh Wow! That's NOT something I wanted to hear. I've been planning to be in the market for a new VW Beetle sometime within the next year. I sure see a lot of them on the road, and so far I've never seen one in the emergency lane.

Hi Lorraine, nothing on your experiences, im sorry that you had to go through that but in reality, your New Beetle is basically a Golf 4 in different clothing. So if there were that many issues across the board then surely these would surface in the Golf 4's aswell, taking into account that there were many, many more Golf 4's sold than New Beetles since their release.. jus my opinion...

your ford escort might not have as much electrical equipments. and the worst thing you could do was to take it back to the dealer, find a edpendent VW shop, once they find the real problem and fix it, that would be it! Most of the dealers, love you so much that they do not fix the problems, so they can meet you in a month or so!
But yeah, vw is not the most religable car in the market, especially the mexican mades! however if they were a solid car with no electrical equipment or sensors, they can last very long and every one would love them!

I really don't know what has happened to VW in the past several years. At one time they seemed to have resolved all of their electrical problems, only to forget how they did it of late. Sadly, yours is not the first I have heard of this, nor of the company's less than vigorous standing behind its product on warranty issues.

Newer VW's have more reliability problems which means more warrenty claims and less time driving your car.
The best thing you should do is sell the beetle and buy a new car with top reliability. (eg. Honda, Toyota, Nissan etc)

Yes, mine is also always breaking down and right now, I still have to waste money on it to repair a "NEW" problem..... I would not recommend this car to anyone except my worst ennemy :)

yeah most cars lights stay on as the car is running.. i own a 02 pontiac grand prix and the only way for me to turn the lights off is to turn the light knob half way between the running light setting and the actual light setting.. which is just shorting the circuit out lol
