The unification of human and divine nature, eradication of mortality, freedom from the fear of death, and the remission of sins. Read John S. Romanides, "St. Paul and Original Sin," or "The Ancestral Sin." And if you can't be a Christian without believing in Original Sin, then why was it an unknown doctrine prior to Augustine of Hippo?

I don't believe in literal Original Sin.
A God who curses innocent babies in revenge and egotistical desire to keep a monopoly on the god power and so visits the sins of the father on the son would be neither just nor loving by standards we derive from Christianity itself. It takes all sorts of mental repression to to continue holding this idea along with the idea of grace.
What I believe is that the story of the Fall of Man is mythological and was made up to describe what is naturally true. Humans are born with an impulse toward elevating ourselves, our wills, above God's. However, we are also born with the desire to be accepted, to make others happy, and to be part of a community/family/etc. The process of dying to Self and being reborn is and always has been available to everyone.
Jesus' life and death is the correspondence in the field of time that signiofies the grace God extends us, meaning he is always available if we will turn to him. Since God is not bound by time it but is eternal it can be said that grace was "always" extended to all of us (in terms of time). And we do have the grace to overcome our own sinful ways and accept God and do His will and be saved. But it's not because of Adam or Eve, a cursory look at the instincts of other animals should tell us that selfishness is a trait which the Hebrews had to account for in their mythology.
Note: calling it mythology should not suggest that all facts are false or that Christianity is false in the least.

Are you talking about the fact that Adam and Eve sinned thus we are all "Sinners" or are you stuck on the thought that a Child is born as a sinner even though they can not sin without knowing that they are sinning? This is from wikipedia:
According to Christian theology, original sin (also called ancestral sin, hereditary sin, birth sin, or person sin) is the fallen state of humanity. In the history of Christianity this condition has been characterized as something as insignificant as a slight deficiency to something as drastic as total depravity. Western Christian tradition regards it as the general condition of sinfulness (lack of holiness) into which human beings are born, distinct from any actual sins that a person may or may not commit later. Eastern Christian Tradition too identifies original sin as physical and spiritual death, the spiritual death being the loss of "the grace of God, which quickened (the soul) with the higher and spiritual life"[1] Others see original sin also as the cause of actual sins: "a bad tree bears bad fruit" (Matthew 7:17, NIV), although, in this view, original and actual sin may be difficult to distinguish.[2]
I do not believe that a person may sin until he/she is able to distinguish what sin is and that comes with age. The age differs for each person but he/she should be able to distinguish right from wrong and understand what "sin" actually is. We are able to become Christians and be free from Sin thus able to attain a place in Heaven by following the New Testament writings of Christ's Apostles. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,.

we all sin, and we all knew we would when we chose God's plan and came to this earth. but that doesn't mean we were born with someone else's sin on our heads. that is just stupid. none of will ever make it through this life sinless save Christ. that is why we needed the atonement. not just to overcome sin, but death as well. so that one day we will be resurrected to a glorious perfected body like our Lord's. but we are all born innocent. Christ's suffering for us began in the garden of Gethsemane when He was praying to the Father and bled form every pore. that is where He took upon the sins of the world. He had to die to overcome death and only a perfect person could do that. because He never did sin, death had no power over Him.

To believe in the concept of the Original Sin and that Jesus Christ died for sins of the world is not a chrisitian doctrine.
Christ died for all sins. The Atonement is retroactive, meaning that all the sins that were repented of by all the saints all the way back to Adam and Eve's Trangression are forgiven. THERE IS NO ORIGINAL SIN.

The "Original Sin" Idea is a Parallel Truth.
Adam Messed Up his Spirit when he committed High Treason.
That is what "the Original Sin" Actually is.
Adam passed that Messed Up Spirit down to EveryBody Else.
We are all Born "Lost" (disconnected from GOD Almighty-- Spiritually), because of that High Treason.
Jesus is The Only One Who can recreate it for you!
(become Saved, Born-Again--Reconnected to GOD Almighty again, Spiritually)

The Fall of Adam and Eve brought two s. One spiritual and one physical. Christ's and resurrection makes it so we will all be resurrected. His atonement and suffering for our sins makes it so we can repent and return to him. Notice I said "our sins." We are punished for our own sins, not for Adams.
