Most of the carpet cleaners produce the same results with a little elbow grease so choose whichever one you like. Just stick to the same one in the future as different formulations can interfere with each other.

First mop up as much as possible using paper towels. You may be able to us an enzymatic cleaner like nature's miracle or other similar products directly afterwards. The enzymes can be damaged if used with a harsh cleanser. Otherwise, clean up with a cleaner, rinse with water and apply the enzymatic cleaner for the deep down smell that only dogs and cats notice.

This is more for the dog than for you as he will repeat this unless you get the smell out completely.

The Queen of Clean says fresh urine stains can be removed by rinsing well with lots of cool water ASAP and then use BIZ and rub in and rinse using a clean white rag.

If it is dried soak in clear hot water, the hotter the better use detergent and rinse and dab dry using clean white cloth

Nature's Miracle - if that doesn't lift the stain (it will get rid of the smell) try Resolve after it.

Go buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol for 99 cents and dilute it in a spray bottle of water. It works about as well on urine as Nature's Miracle but is way cheaper.

Steam clean the rug. You can rent a steam cleaner or you can buy one (they come in handy later on in life)
