No, feeding them canned is fine. I would get the additive to their water that protects their teeth from decay. You can get that from any pet supply shop, or talk to your vet.

Edited to add: You can also brush your cat's teeth with special toothpaste. I do that for my cats, and they love it!

You might want to go to: http://www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Does Dry Food Clean the Teeth" to help clear up that myth for you.

The only thing that will really clean your cat's teeth is chunks of meat and bone as a regular diet. My cats eat canned and ground raw meat so they usually need a dental cleaning once a year when they have their annual exam. Unless you can get your cat to have its teeth brushed by you that may be what you are in for.

Dental health is highly influenced by genetics. I have cats that don't need professional cleaning every year.

yes all cats need to eat a bit of dry cat food .. this cleans the cats teeth as they eat and maintains the gums..
tinned cat food has little to no protein value.. its al water and your ct will have to eat at least a whole tin a day to maintain health far better to feed a mixture of dry complete and wet food that way you get the best of both

There's nothing really wrong with feeding your kitty canned food, as long as the food isn't tainted. But your kitty should also have something crunchy to chew on too. There are even sticks you can buy for your cat to chew on to clean their teeth: I just saw a catalog of such things a couple of weeks ago.

No it isn't correct. give your cat the canned food It has all the fat and protien your cat needs. then put down cat biscuits to help your cat maintain it's dental health( crunching bones )
all dried food will damage you cats health.
regardless of what you feed your cat on. ALWAYS provide fresh water. provide several bowls around your house to make sure you cat drinks enough

That is what used to be believed and vets told you. They are not saying that now.
You can buy cat toothpaste or cat wipes to clean their teeth. It does help. Even if you wipe them with a cloth helps.

it really depends on the type of food, and what is right for your cat. You might want to go to your vetrenarian and ask them what kind of food they would recommend for your cat. Also many veterinarians carry canned food that would be appropriate for your cat

Some cats like mine just refuse to eat it but sometimes it is better for the digestion system because it is already soft. Just make sure you are not spending too much money on it!

It's good for them- but some find it too rich, so they need some dry or they get the runs.
