I want to get a tattoo so badly, but I am so scared of the pain. This may sound stupid, but I am serious. One night when I Was drinking with friends, I was at the point of feeling pretty good and thought, I want to get a tattoo and wanted to go right then and there, but my friends said I could not get one with alcohol in my system for some reason. Is that true? They said the tattoo place would not do it, but is that just because they don't want you to wake up the next day regreting it, or is there a medical reason?

Kat Von D always drinks alcohol while getting tattooed and has publicly stated this. I think it's more a case of tattoo artist don't wanted to get sued if someone comes in drunk and gets a tattoo then when they are sober realise what they did so go back and complain.

NO good tattooist will tattoo you if you've been drinking. The reason they will tell you is that alcohol and/or pain killers will thin your blood and you'll bleed too much while getting the tattoo and it won't heal.

Hey,
Look, I would never back up tattoos and piercings at certain parts of the body. If you were a woman, you shouldn't get one from your belly and over, this would effect breeding badly, it could either poison the baby. But you are not, so let me give you some other information you may be unaware of.
A tattoo, even if it gets right on your skin, after some time, depends on what you will use etc, it may look fade.
Now I will go ahead medical reasons, as too many tattoos can poison YOU. It can drive you to madness. And it may bleed. It is ink, and if ink gets in our organism, it can bring about a lot of problems, as our organism doesn't need it and it may harm it. Inks and pins are dangerous, what if the pin is infected? Also, if your health is somehow special, you shouldn;t go over this.
About the pain, it depends on you. It is less harmful to some people, but it surely hurts, a bit at least. If you want to get it on a certain part, such as kneels (I mean a part which can "open and close"), it will hurt really much! And you are gonna be bleeding for some days.
You may think that I am another stupid reading this, but whatever you decide, I will be sure I will have done what I was supposed to. I won't tell you anything about alchohol, the other guy told you. And I may exagerrate here, but alchohol is also dangerous (I am not maniac, please!), if you exagerrate. You should avoid it. But doctors say that a small glass of it, only one, means health, as it funtions something. Come on, it is like C vitamin, if exagerrating, you will do bad, not good. And it is also bad for your shape...=p
Anyway, I hope I have covered you, do whatever you like, hope you will get the right desicion.
PS:Why don't you try a henna one or body art? It is not harmful and not dangerous! And you can remove it so easily! Think about it if you REALLY REALLY want one. I will get one too.;)

A tattoo shop with any kind of reputation will not tattoo you if you have been drinking. Alcohol is a blood thinner and since they will be working with needles and there is blood loss with a tattoo when you are sober...the the blood loss is more when you are drunk or have been drinking. Don't be scared they are not that bad I have gotten 3 in less than a year and I am planning my 4th

When you get a tattoo you will bleed because the needle is pressed into the flesh to mark it permanently. We all know Alcohol thins the blood and, yes, it would deaden your nerves, but it would make you bleed profusely during the proceedure. That is why you can't drink before. I have 2 tattoos on my shoulder. I think the outlining hurt a bit and did not mind the coloring process at all. My friend is just the opposite. And if they work over bone, there is nothing to ease that pain. So..be brave and just go have it done when you are sober. Hint:...if you are feeling a lot of lasting pain where they are tattooing, just speak up and they will stop, put a wet, cold compress on the area, and will wait til you are ready to go on.

they won't do it because alcohol thins your blood and you will bleed more. some places will allow it... it just depends. but really getting tattooed isn't THAT painful. i have drank once during a tattoo and it was a three hour session. at the end i was just tired and in pain so i took three shots of jack daniels and it took the edge off but it still didn't stop the pain. but i only had about 30 minutes left of tattoo work. then we went out to the bar (with my tattoo artist) and got trashed.
good times.
just see if you can handle the pain without anything, it really is bearable.

Alcohol affects different people in different ways,ie, someone whose calm and sedate when sober can turn into a violent disruptive when laden with alcohol. So, for health and safety reasons tattooists do not entertain their craft on anyone under the influence. If you want a tattoo urgently, have one done on the more fleshy part of your arm or shoulder, remember to choose your tattoo carefully as they cannot be rectified later. Good luck mate!

I'm not sure why parlors don't want to do it when you have alcohol in your system.. but I'm going to guess because your blood thins... and you bleed while getting a tat.

Anyway.. some places will still do it as long as you aren't falling over retarded drunk. I have gotten a tat when I was drunk, but I wasn't obliterated.

The only thing I suggest is not getting a name tattooed on your while you're drunk! LOL

Have fun!

Nothing, you'll be fine. If you drink very heavily, it may start to bleed a bit. Just keep a gauze pad with you, and if you get totally smashed, cover it again with the gauze. Try to keep it clean, buddy. No worries though, I have lots of tattoos, and a drinking problem. Hehe. Doesent mess up your tats any.

its both. alcohol thins your blood, which of course makes it harder to get the bleeding to stop. if the bleeding doesnt stop, the ink bleeds out and you end up in the hospital. its kind of a lose lose cituation. also, you dont want to get a tattoo when your drunk, i know several tattoo artists who if by some horrible chance they decide to tattoo you when you drunk, they would probably mess it up on purpose to prove how stupid it is to get tattooed drunk. always stay sober, it doesnt hurt. i have 5, all in extremely sensitive areas, and only one hurt because the guy had the needle too low.

A tatoo parlor will not do a tatoo on you when you are intoxicated. Alcohol thins out your blood and getting a tattoo while intoxicated could make you bleen a good bit. Also, if you are bleeding that much you are going to bleed the ink out as soon as they can get it in... Just not a good decision!!!
