Sometimes she acts completely fine, running and jumping excitedly when I get home from work. But she doesnt want to walk as long or far as she used too...and she sleeps alot more. I have changed her diet several times because she wouldn't eat dry Iams, and then I put her on dry Iams mixed with wet Iams, and she got constipated, there was even a touch of blood when she went. I switched to a home made diet receipie I found on the net from a vet - lean ground beef, veggies and potatoes basically, and thats what she threw up. I'm at a loss, she was supposedly dewormed and vet checked when I got her from the shelter about a month ago. She is up to date on all her shots. She's a mini schnauzer if that helps.

First off - call your vet. Tell him/her the symptoms and get your dog in for a checkup and bloodwork.

Secondly, Mini Schnauzers are NOTORIOUS for digestive problems, so randomly switching her diet is likely doing more harm than good. The breed is susceptible to pancreatitis and high cholesterol, and need to have a consistent, low-fat diet in order to stay healthy.

Pancreatitis can be fatal. Definitely get her to a vet.

First off stop changing the diet. Stick to 1 dont change up on them. Dogs dont typically like different foods. The diet you got online...unless you drained the meat, and made sure all veggies were drained well they wold throw it up. All g beef is for is for fatting up a dog/pup but you need to be careful as to how much you give plus the temps of the g. beef. Also soft food isnt the best for dogs its hard on the teeth (will rot them out if on just a wet diet sooner than a dry food will). Take the dog to a vet. Could be 100 different things. If you have had changes in the dogs life that will make them not want to eat, ect...check the dogs gums they should be pink and when you touch them the white should go back to pink if it takes more than a second to turn back your dog needs fluids. May require an IV if its not drinking water.

Dog food should not cause the symptoms you are describing. Maybe some tummy upset and diarrhea, but that's about it. Your parents need to take this dog to the vet before they leave. Unfortunately, your dog is a senior at 11 years old and the average life span of a golden retriever is about 11-12 years. Any number of age related symptoms could come on suddenly. Cancer, kidney failure, cardiomyopathy are just a few things that would not be uncommon in a dog this age. Any time a perfectly healthy pet has to be carried outside to relieve themselves, something serious is going on. A friend of mine had a mixed breed dog about 13 years old that acted like this for a few days, but seemed to get better so they didn't take him to the vet. 2 weeks later he just collapsed and died before they could get him to the vet. Insist that your parents at least call the vet.

Oh dear.

It sounds like something is clogging your dog's insides. In which case, you'll need a vet's help getting her unclogged.

By the way, I've never been able to get a critter to eat any Iams.

You cannot be changing your dog's diet from day to day. If you need to change it (to a decent dry would be nice - something like Canidae, not supermarket junk like Iams), you have to do it gradually, adding a little more each day until the change is complete.

You really need to call your vet and tell him about your dog's lethargy and digestive problems.

Something you may not know about schnauzers is that they have a high tendency of having gallbladder and bladder stones.

i would call your vet and have an X-ray done to rule out any stones...then see what your vet suggests for his symptoms.

My dog had this problem sort of when he was about two or three months old its expensive but try asking your vet about a blan diet food. Thats what my dog was on and it helped.

Time to go back to the vet. It could be many things, but only a vet can tell you.

She needs to be checked out by a vet. She could have congestive heart failure, an infection...any number of things.

If there is blood in her poop you need to get her to the vet asap. She could have parvo. At the very least you'll find out what is wrong with her.
