Are you still considered to have split-personalities if they do not take control, but still seem to be different people w/ different influences on your life? If it seems they can agrue and have their own personalities?

Mosat definitions say they must take control for you to have split-personalities. Is that true?

Number one, I have been clinically diagnosed with having Disassociative Identity Disorder>>they no longer call it Multiple Personality Disorder. I personally want to tell you that a label is just that, a label. Is what you are going through problematic for you, yes. Does it matter what it is called?

In essence, treat your symptoms, not the label.

What I will tell you is that for starters, I lost time, "found" myself in places I would never think of going. However, I never did find myself in any "unsafe" situation. What I know now is that I have a protector whom will come to the "forefront" if I ever become "endangered" physically. There are several others whom have specific jobs. Do your "others" do certain jobs for you in your life? If they do, then yeah, I would say that you are DID. If not, maybe it is schizophrenia. Hearing people/personalities, doesn't always mean DID. Schizophrenia affects a lot of people.

Please, get educated, and see someone with proper certification. You'll be thankful in the end.

In addition, it's rare for children to come up with these AXIS I problems such as Bi-polar, Schizophrenia, among others before their adolescent. If your problems increase as you get older, don't be suprised. Most diagnosis of mental illness get done around high school-freshman/sophmore college age.

Much love and peace to you!

From the past 30 years of observing --
Alter Personalities (the portions of the person that are not the core person) (here you've called it split-personalities)
can play peek-a-boo for years without the core person realizing what is going on. They may or may not speak, but it can be obvious to the trained eye or the constant companion that an Alter has appeared. The way a person holds their head, their facial muscles, the look in their eye, and yes, their difference in voice or vocabulary -- each give us the clues. To the core person, there may or may not be a sense of "lost time" while the Alter was "out" for a few moments, an hour, or even a day. That is the tricky thing about the alters, they work without the knowledge of the core person, and sometimes without the knowledge of the other alters -- independently, just any old time they choose to get in on the action of life, or any time they sense that the core person is in danger. -- That IS THEIR JOB, after all, to protect you from experiencing danger and trauma. That was how they were formed, and it remains as their primary purpose within you.
It really and truly is a "gift" which only the most intelligent of the intelligent people are capable of - an internal mechanism of protection from the experience and the memories of trauma.

To answer your question, Yes they hide in the background.
No, you may not be aware of their ever being "out" in charge, as likely their times out are brief enough that you are not sensing you have "lost time" in your awareness. But, if you were to ask pointed questions of someone who spends alot of time with you -- they could identify for you times when you appear a bit different and sense you are not quite entirely present during a conversation or an evening.

All people have faceted personalities to lesser and greater degrees.

True MPD is characterized by a severe split, often but not always involving memory loss or distortion. It is considered very rare.

There is no true gage for mental trauma; everyone is different. For some people a minor or even unremembered trauma can cause a distinct split. Others seem to be able to withstand a severe amount of abuse while (appearing to) staying the same person.

"Minor" internal personality switches are not considered true MPD (though there is some debate). Many professionals are able to detach themselves from their work. Someone might say they "wear different hats" or seem to "become someone different" when they go to work/ play a sport/ get angry.
These splits can often be associated with addictive behavior ("she is someone else when she drinks", "I just can't stop myself"), abusive ("he said he would change"), and sexual behavior ("her eyes glaze over and she lets you do anything.").

The key is to not keep secrets form yourself; that is why counseling and psychotherapy often help.

i have a split personality and you can't change me and i can't change myself.
I've tried to change so many times and i've tried to control my mood swings, but it just didn't completely work.
My father was phycotic and my mother probably the sweetest women you could ever meet.
When i'm angry it's hard to control..
when i'm your friend i'm completely faithful and trustworthy.
Not many people can interpret me and my resons..
i have no resons it's just my nature.
I can even intimidate some men when i'm angry. My mother was short, but my father was ranging around 6'5.
I'm a tall women and told to be beautiful, but once somone finds out my personality it's hard for them to cope.
Some of my friends ajust to it and we have great times, but others like other i've met in the past just walk away because they can't handle the dramatic lifestyle that comes with entering my life.

A split personality is rather rare. People who have it do not even know they have it, and can't remember switching from one to the other.
Read up on it , and discover yourself what it is like to have MPD.
