Or, in the alternative, God was mad at Satan for creating a false religion and calling himself Jesus, so he appeared to Mohammad.

You can prove your theory as much as I can prove mine. (This is a disclaimer. I'm not suggesting this is true, or even what I believe, just pointing out the flaw in the question)

I'm sure you have no idea how much pagan influence there is in Christianity. Christmas is in December because the Romans celebrated saturnalia around that time of year. During this festival, the slaves were free for a day, and this was acknowledged by the "Freeman's hat," which would be Santa Claus's hat. Nearly every religion has a great flood, and there are many figures similar to Jesus. Religion: it's a tradition, it's a culture, it's part of society. Everything has been influenced by something else.

OR consider this.....

There was a perfectly good religion with good rules and punishments. It mentioned Satan as an angel who was prideful in desiring to be "the right hand of God" but was then cast out. It predicted multiple comings, which included Satan who would turn their religious writings against them.

Along comes someone that says "break the rules and I will forgive you". And basically that if enough of you follow me then I will be at the right hand of God to let you into heaven no matter what you do as long as you follow me.

Then look at the historical record that the new religion following that person can claim vs the original one. Hmmmm makes you wonder which coming the christians are really followers of.

In reply to a similar allegation put forward by the pagans of Makkah, that the prophet (pbuh) received the revelations from Satan, the following verses were revealed:
Surah Waqiah, chapter 56 verses 77-80
"That this is indeed
A Qur’an most honourable,
In a Book well-guarded,
Which none shall touch
But those who are clean:

A Revelation from the Lord
Of the Worlds."
Kitabim Maknoon means a book well guarded or a protected book, referring to Lauh-e-Mahfooz in the heaven, which none shall touch except the Mutahhareen. i.e. those who do not have any uncleanliness or impurity or evil like sin. This refers to the angels. The satan is absolutely prohobited.
Thus since it is impossible for satan to come anywhere close to it or touch it, the question of him writing the verses of the Glorious Qur’an does not arise.
It is further mentioned in Surah Shura, chapter 26 verse 210-212
"No evil ones have brought
Down this (Revelation):
It would neither suit them
Nor would they be able (To produce it).
Indeed they have been removed
Far from even (a chance of)
Hearing it."
Many people have a wrong concept of satan. They think that satan can probably do everything, except a couple of things that God can do. According to them, satan is slightly below God in power. Since the people do not want to accept that the Qur’an is a miraculous revelation, they say that it is satan’s handiwork.
1. If satan would have written the Qur’an, he would not have mentioned in the same Qur’an in Surah Nahl, chapter 16 verse no. 98
"When thou does read
The Qur’an, seek Allah’s protection from Satan the Rejected One."
Is this how you feel satan would write a book? Does he tell you; "Before you read my book ask God to save you from me?"

2. There are several verses in the Qur’an which will give enough evidence that satan is not the author of the Qur’an.
In Surah Al Aaraf chapter 7 verse 200
"If a suggestion from Satan assail your (mind),
seek refuge with Allah; for He hears and knows
(all things).
Why would satan tell his followers, that whenever he gives any suggestions to them, they should seek refuge in Allah (swt) to whom he is an avowed enemy.

3. In Surah Baqarah, chapter 2 verse 168
"O ye people!
Eat of what is on earth, lawful and good;
and do not follow the footsteps of the Evil one,
For he is to you an avowed enemy."

4. In Surah Yasin, chapter 36 verse 60
"Did I not enjoin on you,
O ye children of Adam,
that ye should not worship Satan;
for that he was to you an enemy avowed?"
Satan is intelligent, no wonder that he can put this idea into the minds of people that he himself wrote the Qur’an. Compared to Almighty God, Satan is insignificant, and Allah (swt) is far more intelligent. He knows satan’s evil intentions and hence no wonder that He has given the reader of the Qur’an several proofs to show that Qur’an is God’s word, and not satan’s word.
The Bible mentions in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 3, verses 24-26
"And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that
kingdom cannot stand."
"And if a house be divided against itself,
that house cannot stand."
"And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end."

The Bible says Satan lifted himself up saying "I will be like the most high" meaning God.
It was more pride than anything.
He has, since the beginning, spread lies, and anti-God beliefs. I do not think he has called himself allah though.
A false system, by any name, is still a false system, and does not-indeed cannot- originate from the one true God that is.

Islam is an offshoot of Judaism just as Christianity is. Muslims believe that they are the true heirs to the promise God gave to Abraham, because they believe they are decendents of his first son, Ishmael (the son born to him by his wife's servant). Christian and Jewish belief is that God never meant for Ishmael to have this promise, so God offered him his own dynasty seperate from Isaac's (the son born to Abraham by his wife).

Lucifer was created as an angel by God. He was very beautiful and became vain. He was very jealous of God, and felt he deserved to have the power. He and his followers fought against God and lost, so he has tried to gain whatever advantage he can by turning souls away from God whenever he can; the only real way to hurt God's heart.

Islam worships the God of Abraham, just as Judaism and Christianity does. If you look at the true teachings of Islam, they actually give both religions much more respect (at least in the Qur'an, anyway) then either religion gives theirs.

Either way, we all worship the same God, just in very different ways. We need to embrace our sameness and respect our differences. All of this fighting over who's right is pointless, we will never know for certain until we die and meet God face to face. We will never get the other to believe that their way is wrong, and the things we do to prove it often violate our own beliefs!

Why can't we all just do our thing and let God sort it out in the end. Anyone who doesn't even believe in God shouldn't worry about any of this in the first place! You do your thing too, just don't do it to someone else!

Satan is prideful. he wants to be as exhalted as Our Creator. He knows that He can't attack God, so he does it in a round about way by deceiving what God loves the most. Satan has been deceiving us with countrefit "religions" for thousands of years. If he can get us to believe in something other than Our Creator and the relationship that God requires, he gets even with God. This is the only way that satan gets any so-called satisfaction.

The same could be said of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation...but kept the name Jesus to further confuse.
(not to mention the Holy Inquisitioin done in the name of Jesus...that was diabolic in anything).
