A Papal Conclave works like this:
+ A pope dies and is buried
+ The cardinals come to Rome for the conclave that will elect the new pope. The word conclave (Latin, *** + clavis, literally, "locked with the key") designates:
. • The place in a locked section of the Vatican where the cardinals elect a new pope.
. • The actual gathering of the cardinals.
+ The conclave begins 15 to 20 days after the pope's death.
+ The cardinals pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during a Mass
+ The cardinals, sealed in the Sistine Chapel, vote every morning and afternoon.
+ A two-thirds majority plus one is required for election for the first 30 ballots. After that, a simple majority is required.
+ After each vote, they burn the ballots and add special chemicals to make the smoke white or black.
. • Black smoke means no new pope yet.
. • White smoke announces the election of a new pope.
+ The cardinals may elect any baptized male they wish. There have been occasions in the past where they have elected a layman. After their election, the layman has to be ordained priest and bishop.
+ They ask the one elected if he accepts. The moment he accepts, he is pope.
+ The pope chooses his “Papal” name.
+ Then the new pope is announced to the world.

To be elected Pope, one Cardinal must receive at least two-thirds of the votes. Except that, under the new rules established by Pope John Paul II, if a certain number of ballots have taken place without any Cardinal being elected Pope, then the Cardinals may then elect by simple majority. This is an important change and may well be the most important change made. In the past, it has often been the case that a particular candidate has had solid majority support but cannot garner the required two-thirds majority, eg, because he is too conservative to satisfy the more moderate Cardinals. Therefore a compromise candidate is chosen, either an old Pope who will die soon and not do much until the next conclave (which is what was intended with John XXIII!) or someone not so hard-line wins support. The difference now will be that if, in the early ballots, one candidate has strong majority support, there is less incentive for that majority to compromise with the cardinals who are against their candidate and they simply need to sit out 30 ballots to elect their man. This may well see much more "hard-line" Popes being elected. There will also be far less incentive for the Cardinals to finish quickly as in the past. After such a long papacy, they may need time to arrive at a strong consensus on what type of papacy the Church now needs. They will also be staying in comfortable lodgings, rather than sleeping in foldaway cots in hallways and offices in the Sistine Chapel. On the other hand, the Cardinals will be reluctant for it to appear as if they are deeply divided, so there will still be an overriding desire to have a quick conclave. (No conclave in the last 200 years has lasted more than 5 days.)

<< Is it actual that there became a pope that ought to levitate? Do you think of that popes are infallible? >> The Pope is infallible whilst he makes an *ex cathedra* pronouncement on faith and morals. The Pope is infallable whilst he levitates. No Popes have been documented to have been infallable. St. Teresa of Avila became infallable whilst she levitated, besides the incontrovertible fact that. << in that case what concerning the crusades? >> The Crusades weren't infallible, yet had there been any flying Crusaders, they might have been infallable. << Why do catholics say martin Luther became a heretic and is burning in hell whilst he basically proved them incorrect (On varied stages)? >> Catholics say Martin Luther became a heretic because of the fact he proclaimed ideals antithetical to those of the Church. Martin Luther became fallable because of the fact that he under no circumstances levitated, nonetheless he believed God had stored him from falling off his horse throughout a lightning hurricane. No Catholic can say reliably that Luther or everyone else is in hell different than Judas Iscariot, yet Luther became no longer Judas Iscariot. (Luther became proved incorrect on ninety 5 stages). << suited me if im incorrect, yet that's what i became advised by a catholic instructor >> No, you're certainly suited. that's what you have been advised by a Catholic instructor.

conclave is right , they locked up and chose or vote a pope among themselves, so every cardinal in that conclave can be a potential future pope, the white smoke emerge from a particular chamber that suggests we have a new pope then wait him to come out in st. peter's basilicas' balcony.

The Pope is put in office by Popular Vote.
It would be like the US Senate voting soley amoung themselves and choosing who the next US President will be.
No apostolic succession... Just popular vote.

Prayer AND vote.
The Cardinals lock themselves up in a "Conclave" until they have chosen a new pope. Read more here:

It's done by Satan. There is no "pope" in the Bible, so Satan gets his servants the catholics together to decide who would best flood the earth with the false gospel of the catholics that leads to eternal hell.
