The correct answer is NO! NO! NO!
I have used Minolta cameras for 36 years so I know what I'm talking about.
Totally different lens mounts used by Nikon and Minolta.
Your MAXXUM lens will, however, mount to a Sony Alpha DSLR - the Sony is really a Minolta since Sony bought the DSLR line from Minolta.
UPDATE!! At bhphotovideo there are adapters available to mount the Nikon AI and Canon FD lenses to a Maxxum/Sony.

Nikon cameras will take most every Nikon lens ever made, with some degree of compatibility. But the Minolta Maxxum lenses won't fit any Nikons or Canons or current DSLR's, with the possible exception of the Olympus cameras with adaptor. Even then, they'll be handicapped and not fully functional.
Unless you have a bag of prime optics, I'd suggest replacing them with newer lenses for your new digital slr.

If you are shooting a Minolta lens mounted on a Minolta body, then you can use the Nikon as a lens rest. So, yes. Minolta mounted on a Nikon? No way!

You are checking after the image is taken... you could/should use the built-in lightmeter when shooting in manual mode. Some of the older cameras had built-in light meters... Others needed an external lightmeter .... Other photographers used the Ansel Adams Zone System and some used the Sunny 16 rule. Many use all the above even to this day!

Most 35mm lenses are not compatible with digital SLR cameras. Especially when you try to mix manufacturers.
Nikon & Minolta do not use the same mount, as far as I'm aware.
Only exception to this is with Pentax. All pentax lenses will mount on newer Pentax Bodies. (Adapters may be needed)

Chances are it won't fit, or if it does the focal length will be wrong! But what's stopping you trying it? You won't hurt the Nikon.
