The Russians would have been at the English Channel by the end of 1946/7. That may have propped-up their economy several more years before their inevitable collapse while limiting our economic growth.

Unfortunately, the distrust between the Soviet Union and the western nations made the Cold War almost inevitible.
The worst case scenario (if nuclear weapons had not been developed) was a large scale conventional war in Europe by the late 1940s.

yes, of course there would be...w/o the device the US would likely turn to Russia for help with Japan...so then when WW2 ended....had we not entered the atomic age...the space race would've been slower as no need to develop ICBMs...the conflict potentially would be between Russia invading NATO or invading Alaskan coridor...but think about it...we're the 2 major superpowers we just won a world war and now we have to share the world...even without nukes there wouldve been a cold war...it COULD make commanders more bold as they dont need to fear a nuclear retaliation...so Russians and American troops probably would've squared off directly.

My GOD... WHERE do you people learn your version of history.?
Without the Atomic Bomb, the war with Japan would have continued on for another year or two with MILLIONS MORE PEOPLE dying... AND... Russia was ready to enter the Pacific conflict, so there may have still been a cold war, but it would have been different and the U.S. MAY have lost...
It's all a matter of academic supposition... so it doesn't really matter now...

Nope, it would have been a real war. The only reason the US didn't invade the Soviets or vice-versa was because both sides knew the other had the fire power to take out there whole country in a matter of days, maybe hours.

The cold war may have never happened, we would not have been able to end our war with Japan with such ease and our military elite estimated that to take tokyo by invasion would cost the US about one million american lives, and twice that many would have been lost from the Japanese side. Without the atom bomb and a battered Europe the US would have never came out as a major superpower, we have WW2 to thank for jump starting our economy, and for the superpower status from the atom bomb. Don't get me wrong, I wish Hiroshima, Nagasaki and pearl harbor would have never happened, but history is just that.............history

I don't think I understand your question. The A bomb was developed by the US and after using it on Japan it was not used again. If you mean, if the Germans had developed it we would all be speaking German today.

The atomic bomb had nothing to do with ending the Cold War. What caused the collapse of the Soviet Union was that during the Regan administration we just flat out out spent them and made it so they couldn't keep up with our technology.

Nope, without the spectre of nuclear holocaust, there just would have been a regular war.

well US wouldn't have failed because they made it first, the Russians were in danger of loosing from the start. besides the collapse of the soviet wasn't because they didn't have the weapons to fight, it was because they had too much of it.
