Are some people, like the preachers say, "so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good"?

There is a great deal of meaning in my earthly life. I enjoy living, and want to savor every minute of it. I find meaning in learning, helping others, giving and receiving love, friendship, and more. Even small things are meaningful to me. There is so much to be thankful for, and so much to enjoy. I don't believe in being so hung up on the afterlife that I make a living hell of my existence on this planet. Life is to be savored and enjoyed, not treated as some sort of miserable prison sentence.

To glorify God and to enjoy him. Of course, we'll be able to do that far, far more in heaven, and forever!

God's creation glorifies him (but the atheists still remain unconvinced) and God's creatures should do the same. The more you appreciate creation, the more you enjoy it. As for those who are heavenly minded, don't dismiss them too quickly as of no earthly good. They usually have a tremendous prayer life! And one day, in the glory, we are all going to be astonished at how much the prayers of godly people helped us, unbeknowns, along the way!

I cherish my family and friends. And as Christian life on earth has more meaning b/c I no longer do things for only me or for that matter people in my life that come and go but I also do it for God b/c He deserves all that I am and more. So on this earth I am living for something much bigger than you and me.
But I do believe some Christians can get to the point where they are so focused on the heavenly aspect that they do become useless on this earth, which is unlike what God wants us to do.

The meaning of life on earth is to serve and glorify God: everything you do should have that as its ultimate aim. Even just getting out of bed and going to work. As is said in the mass, "all creation rightly gives you praise." When you get out of a warm bed, you say, thanks for the warm bed; same when you get dressed, eat, meet other people, etc. When things go wrong you say, "grant me the grace to endure this patiently since it is your will that I go through it, for whatever reasons you have which I may not understand".

Of course, living your whole life for God means you will help those in need of help, because whatever wealth God gives you really belongs to him, and in order to love him you must love your fellow man.

But all of this has heaven for its ultimate goal. God created us for eternal life, and this world is only a means to that end. The meaning of life in a nutshell!

We find our meaning in living for a real purpose. Our real purpose is to glorify God. To glorify means to rightly proclaim God's character. To do that we have to seek God and experience God. We do that by trying to obey His command to love our neighbor for where love is, there God is also.

When we experience God, our character, our very being is changed. We move from "I-it" relationships to "I-Thou" relationships only by God's gift.
