If you don't have a God to listen to, does that mean you create your own destiny?

AnArdRi, I define the word destiny as somebody's preordained future. So what I'm saying is that, if you are atheist, do you create your future? Sorry, I hope it's not too vague.

Yes. We are completely in control of our own existence, and the choices that we make are our own.

Nothing happens "for a reason"...things happen simply because something had to.

There are no supernatural forces. No one has any powers beyond those of any other human.

There are no such things as miracles...or magic.

No one, or no thing, is tempting you to become evil...or good.

You make choices every single day, and you will have to live with those choices the rest of your life. So, it pays to think about them...carefully. You can't blame satan when things go bad, or credit god when they go well.

God doesn't help artists win awards or athletes score points. Satan doesn't bring celebrities drugs or hookers.

Just realize that, no matter what, you know you have the life you're leading. This is real, genuine, and pure. No destiny exists for you already. What you choose to do is up to you.

So, embrace this life and the choices you can make. Do the very best you can at all you choose to do, and be as good a human being as you can possibly be. Give more than you take, help those who need help, and love those close to you with every bit of energy you can muster. Protect the innocent. Demand the laws be upheld equally for all those who choose to break them.

...and always, always be a good person. You don't need the threat of eternal damnation to do so.

The concept of hearing voices may be attractive to children and the mentally challenged, personally I don't believe in destiny whispered in my ear, or otherwise as I am an Atheist.

Yes, and so do religious people. If religious folks decide they want to surrender control of their destiny to the whims of a church or the laws of some scripture, they are doing so of their own volition. However, that doesn't mean things can't get in the way of my plans, or that I can't fail. It just means it's my choice (within reason) how I intended to proceed in any given situation.

You're presuming the existence of destiny. There is nothing to show that a person's path through life is predetermined.

Everyone does.

If you believe in a god and follow their path, then that is the destiny that you have created for yourself as much as an atheist would.

How are you defining "destiny?" A great deal would depend upon the answer to that question.

To an extent. I can not control when I might be affected by an earthquake/tidal wave/hurricane. But I can chose do what I can with the resources I can make available to me.

We have no destiny. We have choices to make and that determines what we will do.

Same as believers, in fact, except that believers turn to their religious leaders for which choices to make.

Yes, just like everyone else, our actions determine a great deal of the events of our lives.
