which internet explorer am I using,how do I find out?

Press Alt while holding the window's titlebar and select Help, amongst the help menu, you should see About... or About Internet Explorer.
The version data is displayed.

Go to Internet Explorer
click Help

If the upper left-hand corner is an "e" with a yellow slash, it's Windows Internet Explorer. If there is a yellow star on the far left in the bar above the browser page, it's IE 7.

Go to Help, then select About Internet Explorer. The first line in the pop up will give you your IE version.

In internet exporer, on top menu, click on Help -> About

You'll see the full version number in the about box.
