First of all I wanted to mention that we have a vet appointment at 2:40, thats the only time they could see us, if you believe that!!
My cats have always been indoor cats. Over the summer they kept trying to get outside and finally we just let them, rather than always chasing them back in. They were good about staying in the yard, but recently our cat Simba got brave and started wandreing the block. Anyway he came inthe other day and was hissing if you touched him. Last night I picked him up and there was blood, a lot of it, all over the floor, we put him in the bathroom and there wasblood all over the floor. I thought it was coming out of his bottom, but he didnt want me to look so I let him be. Today he is bleeding slightly an he was standing up and I see it is his tail, I thik it was dislocated or broken, it has a huge wound on it and just hangs there. Hangs wrong. I am taking him to the vet in 1 hour but I am wondering if its broken do the amputate or can they fix it??

Just wanted to update, turns out Simba has 2 HUGE cuts/bites on his tail, he is on antibiotics, and had to have his tail shaved and cleaned. It looks pretty gross, but he will be okay and so should his tail! : )

Oh poor, poor kitty. I know the wait is excrutiating, but it is what it is. It's only been a day or so since the injury so it's possible your vet will be able to reset the bone without having to amputate the tail. Amputation is necessary in the case of a severe infection or if the bones are completely crushed. You'll just have to wait and see. Please post an update after you've seen the vet. I hope he'll be okay. Please be very, very careful getting him into the cat carrier. In fact, it may be very, very difficult to do so safely without causing additional damage. You may just want to get a really large cardboard box so his tail can lay straight, poke some holes and tape it up. It'll be much easier to get him inside as well. I'm so sorry for you and your cat. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Sometimes they have to remove the tail. They do fine without it too.

Something just like that happened to our cat "Cheese" about 6 weeks ago. The kids left the door opened a minute too long and Cheese got out. We got him back in about half and hour later, but he was not right. He screamed if you touched himand didn't lift his tail at all. We went to the vet the next day, and you could tell after shaving it that a car ran it over right in the middle.
We wanted to try and save the tail, and after a few procedures to remove dead skin, he has almost made a complete recovery. We are still changing a dressing daily, but the wound is granulating in very well. Full tail function is back, and he seems to be doing fine. It will take a while longer for the whole would to be filled in, so we are going to be doing dressing changes a lot, but all is going well and Cheese has a tail!!!!

Cats recover from an amputated tail authentic away in any respect - Its unlike a individual loosing an arm or leg. If a vet says the tail could be amputated, he probable thinks the an infection is fairly intense. additionally, if its basically the tip of the tail, the vet will probable in common terms amputate a factor of it. additionally, if the tail is already hurting, he's probable no longer utilising it, and so amputating it won't make issues worst.

Keep your cats indoors for crying outloud. Being safe from injury, other cats giving them diseases, getting hit by cars, worms from fleas, etc. far outweighs letting a cat out just because it's carrying on about it. Play with them more, get them some fun cat trees/condos and KEEP THEM INSIDE.
Good luck with the vet appointment.
