After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

The Lord was sending others into towns before Him to talk to them about himself before his impending arrival. The harvest is plentiful means, that there are many out there who need to hear the word of God, but the workers are few means that there are not that many people out there spreading his word.
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few."
Lambs among wolves means that they would not be treated very well at some of the places that they would go.
Oh and ask the lord of the harvest to send out workers means to pray that there would be others that would be willing to go and spread the word of God, also.

When it says "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few" the Lord is saying... there is lots of missionary work, and not enough missionaries He is asking his disciples (followers) to spread his word. I think the "lambs among wolves" means they are going to be ridiculed for what they believe. Remember that Christ's word was not easily accepted in those days.

This is the account of Jesus calling seventy disciples. The instructions that Jesus gave to them are similar to the instructions he gave to the Twelve Disciples. Now in today times, there are many who are lost and we are, as christians to be missionaries of Jesus Christ. We are also in the minority among many.
