I have a new Mustek Bearpaw 4800 scanner printer to scan slides but my old coral photohouse software isn't up to the job. Can anyone recommend good photoshop software suitable for Microsoft XP.

I agree with the JASC Paintshop pro recommendations. It's cheap, effective and, I think, more flexible than Abobe Photoshop (but then I don't like Adobe software at all). Also, it doesn't use up half you PC's memory when it loads, like Photoshop does.

Photoshop is the best, and they have a lite version for much cheaper, can't remember exactly what it's called. Possibly Photoshop Elements?

Depends on what you need.

Irfanview is a great FREE program (www.irfanview.com)
There's also Gimp (www.gimp.org), which is FREE
Or you can buy Corel Photo Paint or Paint Shop Pro, both of which are good programs with lots of features for under $100.

I am not, in any way recommending illicit downloading of software, but I would point out that it is possible to get Photoshop through Torrent sites for people that are so inclined to do so.

I'd recommend you Corel Photopaint, it's better than that crappy Photoshop which is really hard to use and works with those annoying layers.
Good luck!

Try Paint Shop Pro. It can do almost anything Photoshop can do but it is a lot cheaper.

I would recommend, like the others here,
Irfanview
Serif Photoplus 6.0
and GIMP.

All the above are free.

I use Serif Photoplus 7.0 It's easy to use and gives good results with practise, but that's down to you.
