Atheism is the disbelief in gods. Most atheists extend it to include a disbelief in the Christian God and all associated supernatural beings, such as Satan and angels.
The question of spirit is a separate issue. The human spirit (or soul) is a metaphysical concept first defined by St. Augustine in 390 CE. Augustine's Soul critically depends on Solipsism and Idealism, both of which have been completely discredited by scientific rationalism. The Soul is nothing more than an empty metaphysical speculation by an ancient theologian. There is no such thing as Soul (or human spirit) within the physical realm, which is the only objective reality that can be demonstrated to actually exist. In other words, the "spirit" is no more likely to exist than the God atheists don't believe in. Your question is essentially meaningless.

Atheism is a practice of some people who REFUSES to believe that man's life is fed on living it with love and compassion, forgiveness for other people's wrong doing and sacrifice for others -- all taught by a supreme being, so that life makes it meaningful to live. If loving and the results brought by it is good, then why depart from that belief and its teacher.
Atheists are profound in their own ways, claiming their logic and reasons, yet whose bottomline objective is to propagate. They say they dont believe God exists but really wouldn't mind their own business. If they don't really believe God exists, then why should they even care if others do? If some people wouldn't find their opinions as good news, why bother spread it? After all, philosophically speaking, if atheists are right and believers are so wrong, isn't it that at the end of it all, when all our lives are over, we will still be all together out there in the space for the afterlife! So why should atheist even care. But then of course, we all already know who's going to be there and who's not.Just as believers zestfully live their lives to please God, so should atheists enjoy theirs WITH FULL ACCOUNTABILITY. I think, more than being loud on their claim, they just might as well talk about where they would decide to be in their afterlives.
Seriously, I just think they are really intelligent people that simply went overboard --- and that of course, badly need prayers.

If there is spirit, then atheism is the freeing of that spirit, free to explore the mysteries of the universe, free to reject falsehoods, free to find the real answers,so that,in the end,if perchance there exists a god,we may indeed find him.Contrast that to a theist, who is constrained by the contents of an old, heavily edited, censored, sexually and racially biased book in their search for God.God,if one exists,is far to large to fit that tiny little book.Theists have no chance.Atheists,at least, have the universe to explore,no biases,no dogma, and thus,if he exists, stand a much greater chance of finding him

What spirit? Come on, show me where my spirit is, or accept that it is just an anthropomorphic creation because people can not understand how a lump of brain can act as if it had independent thought.
No.
Atheism is an acceptance of the reality of the universe. It may not be as warm and fuzzy as believing in the sky pixie, but accepting what is really there is the better option.
